If you are looking for a funny "whodunnit", which you can play with other friends, you might like this game.

User Rating: 7 | Blue Toad Murder Files: The Mysteries of Little Riddle PS3
The Blue Toad Murder Files, downloadable on the Playstation Network, is a nice game to play with one or more friends. The game has 6 different episodes, which take place in the pristine village called Little Riddle. You can play each episode with 1 - 4 players.

The story begins with you (and possibly others) arriving by train in Little Riddle. You are all part of a famous detective agency: Blue Toad. Now you're here in this small but nice little place, to relax from previous cases. Alas, fate seems to have other plans in store for you, as you're there to witness the murder of the mayor!

And that is how this quaint and funny game starts. How it plays is very easy: everyone takes a turn and goes to a place in Little Riddle. Sometimes you can choose, sometimes the game tells you where to go. As soon as you arrive, the person there has a chore or riddle for you. It's up to you to solve it correctly.

Some of the riddles are very easy, others require a keen mind and some fast thinking. And about three times per episode, there's also a test to see if you paid enough attention. Depending on how you did, you get a medal. At the end of every episode, you have to identify the culprit! Do this correctly, and combined with the medals, you get a final score. In other words, there's a bit of competition if you play with 2 or more players.

The game has some nice graphics, not unlike early Pixar films actually. Everything is narrated by um... the narrator, in a funny way, and with lots of alliterations. Also, every person in Little Riddle has certain quirks, and remind of other (fictional) people sometimes. For example: the hotel owner has a striking resemblance to Basil Fawlty, and the vicar might have read too many Call of Cthulhu books. It's also impressive to know that every single person has the same voice actor. And he does it well, even the female voices.

So, the game looks good, the voices are funny, the riddles are cool, and it's sometimes not too obvious who the culprit is. The story is quite good as well, and you get some laughs because the game never takes itself too seriously. Another plus point is the multiplayer option, where you can compete to be the best detective. So what could possibly be a downside to this game? The answer is simple: replayability.

Since the culprit never changes, and the riddles remain the same as well, there's only one time you can play the game and be surprised: the first time. This is a big downside, of course, but you can always copy it from a friend, or let a friend copy the download from you. Share the costs with someone else, and this is worth the price.

All in all, I can recommend this game. But only if you have a good sense of humour, have someone to play it with, and don't mind the cost of downloading it. Despite the fact that you probably won't play it after finishing the first time (or just to get some pesky riddles right), this is still a nice game to own. Get three friends to spend a couple of hours in front of the PS3 with you (per episode), and I guarantee good fun with this game.
