Reign in blood

I don't know why exactly i bought this game. It was one of those games like that BMX game that just keeps lying in the stores because no one is buying it. But anyway it was on sale and it is a game about vampires and nazi's so how bad could it be?
You start of in the swamps of Louisiana, land of the Voodoo. I noticed straight away that the game's graphics are terrible. They are very greyish and there is also a lot of "fog". Why a 3d actiongame on the gamecube would need so much fog is beyond me. Perhaps because it was designed for the inferior playstation 2 and then ported to the gamecube.
The gameplay is equally terrible. Rayne, the main character who is a female vampire, has a grappling hook to draw her victims to her. She doesn't really need it because she can also just run to them, jump on them and then, with much pleasure, suck them dry. You get the idea. The main difficulty is navigating the levels and finding the exit. At the end of the Louisiana level there is a levelboss who (or which) is very hard to beat. You'll be tempted to quit playing and miss the better part of the game.
If you succeed in defeating the Louisiana swamp-thing the nazi's make their appearance. Rayne goes to Argentina where a certain Herr Nazi Doctor tries to resurrect a vampire bloodgod. Rayne obtains a hitlist of the nazi officers she needs to take down. Hunting them down and slashing them to pieces is actually a lot of fun, despite of the graphics. The last part of the game takes place in a German castle and even the graphics start getting better here. Some of the bossfights are a challenge and there are even some gameplay variations like a mech-battle. After finishing he game i have grown accustomed to Rayne and i did not regret pulling her out of the budget section.
