I have grown up with two things as a kid: Warhammer and video games. And when it comes to the Warhammer games it is quite unpredictable as to which will be great and which will simply suck, unfortunately Blood Bowl did not hit any mark for me.

I have played Sports games, although I do not play them often I have enjoyed them: FIFA, NBA, NHL and Madden NFL games were quite fun, especially when you got the hang of it and knew what to do, the cinematic moments are always cool and the games play very fluid and well. That was what I was assuming Blood Bowl was going to be like.

Blood Bowl is quite unlike the other sports games I have played in my time and it left me very disapointed with only a few things in the game to entertain me. Firstly Blood Bowl is very turn-based, you order your guys to move to a certain point on the field - which is much like a checkers board, and the units you have move almost the same way in a slow and steady game. Stats come into play heavily, for example: Orcs are big and slow so they can do some good damage but can't really run it and avoid being hit while the Elves are lightning fast and can easily get from one end-zone to the other. The only entertaining bit was when my guys smashed the enemy to the floor and knocked them out. Getting the hang of the game was pretty hard for me at least and it ended up frustrating me quite a bit and leaving plenty of my Orcs knocked out by prancing Elves... ugh. The character models do look cool and the graphics remind me somewhat of Fable 2, although perhaps more cartoony. The field is very small making the games short and for real thinkers and strategists.

The cinematic moments that I experienced were quite dull with the camera briefly hovering over my Orc cheerleaders (horrible I know) but the main thing that always bothered me was there was no music, no real sound in the back and no ambiance, not even my drummers made noise ironically.

Thats my short rant on this game and that was all I could bare to experience before I went back to EB and sold that sucker for store credit. However I guess I shouldn't say the game was totally bad, and at the rare times It was enjoyable. Although I think it depends on who is playing it, I doubt most sports gamers would like it, then again perhaps they would after getting used to the controls and play style, I myself am not a Sports gamer but have played them occasionally. I would recommend this game for people who really really like to think about all their options and take their time in a silent world where the annoying announcers are your only comrade.

Other than that I guess I would simply give this game a 5 for being purely mediocre, not totally bad but not good either.
