Bleach: Dark Souls First Look
New characters, cards, and a few bits of candy falling from the sky.
This past March, Sega announced that it would be bringing the manga juggernaut Bleach back for some more 2D fighting on the Nintendo DS with a sequel dubbed Bleach: Dark Souls. We had the opportunity to see the game running while at a Sega press event earlier this week. Not a whole lot seems to have been done to the formula that turned last year's The Blade of Fate into a critical success. But though Sega and developer Treasure may be playing it safe, fans of the series can still anticipate new material.
The story found in Dark Souls will be almost entirely new. In chronological terms, it takes place right between the first and second seasons of the popular anime show. However, you'll still find many references and call-outs to events that originally took place on the show. As you progress through the story, you'll have the opportunity to choose your fate with branching paths on the progression map. We're told that some of these paths will actually close off for the duration of the story if they're not chosen. To add some replayability, Treasure has elected to add four versions of the story to be experienced by players.
The actual fighting will remain much the same. You've still got two planes of action that you can bounce between, one in the foreground and one in the background. You'll also need to assemble a deck of spirit cards to control your status during battle. However, this time 30 new cards have been added, and a handful of the most often abused cards from the last one have been removed from the game entirely. In addition, the total roster of playable characters has been raised to 44.
Although this may be a fighting game, you'll be able to choose from a few minigames described by the Sega rep we spoke with as "noncombat scenarios." These are little events to help test your reflexes and knowledge of the series. In one of these events, two players have to jump all around the screen to collect candy--yes, candy--falling from the sky. In another, you'll have to answer trivia questions about the Bleach series by moving your character to the left or right side of the screen to signify yes or no. The trick with this one is that you have to battle enemies racing across the screen who might knock you into the "no" side when your gut reaction tells you that the answer to the question is "yes."
Finally, there has been a slight modification made to the game's multiplayer component. You'll still be able to engage in four-way multiplayer battles over Wi-Fi, but now you can group up with teams of two rather than go at in a chaotic every-man-for-himself scenario. Bleach: Dark Souls is scheduled for release later this year.
One Of The Best Fighting Games Out On DS Completed The Bleach : Blade Of Fate Cant Wait To Buy Bleach Dark Souls Look Wicked
This will likely impress
Just so you all will know, this game came out in JP like 3 yrs ago so alot of people already have it. NO it does not have any arrancar it does have Aizen, gin, and tousen but no grimmjow or the other 9. Also it does have hollows as Menos and gran fisher. It is an awesome game just barely surrpassing blade of fate. And its Bankais are way better. Check it out! P.S and no luckly they didnt plague this game with Bount characters from the horrible filler episodes.
Actually, Q3 Is July, August, September, and the interview said it was coming out in August, so exepect to see it around then.
Bountou was season 3/4. Bountou was the 2nd arc. Game looking good! :D
So Quarter 3 of 2k8 Thats around September or October right? Man, thats the same time Midnight Club: LA comes out! This looks like a sweet game though, I hope its better than its prequel...which may b hard 2 do
id like to rent this one.
sweet
second season? that means there is bontou too?
I like Ichigo and his bigass sword and blue powers
Grimmjow is my favourite character,... and hoped that he was in the sequal of blade of fate once i got the game ..
SPOILERS They have put an Arrancar or not?Ulquiorra is in the game? And the Selee Scheinder(A.K.A Light Saber Copy) from Ishida and the Brazo Esquierdo del Diablo from Chad? C'mon,GJ and Ulquiorra appears even in NA Wii version,I simply don't understand why they didn't put GJ.
Dynamite Heady wasn't bad.
ah treasure, when have you ever failed us? (thinks about Dynamite Headdy) ...........ah Treasure....
SPOILERS!!! lol i have this game in Japanese and wow its good i love it! it got 44 characters and it got like about 4 very weak characters and 3 joke characters. and srry there is no Grimmjow in this..... sad...Menos Grande is easy to kill..... not really cheap... some characters have been buffed down like Ishida. more bankai. and oh yes challenge mode is gone....story is kind of boring....everything else is good love it. and if you like the first game you will love this one alot better!!!!
SPOILERS one more thing cards are not cheap as they use to be like the hollow ichigo card is not the same! want to know more send e-mail to kwackthere@hotmail.com

Loved Blade of Fate, I'll most likely love this one too especially with the extra playable characters. Go Urahara!!! Though I'd really wished the second one would be more on the lines of fighting Arrancar rather than this one. Still, Grand Fisher (early form) is in it and we get a Menos Grande too so I'm satisfied. Just hope at least the 4th in the series will eventually include Espada. @___@
sounds kool..... can't wait
sounds pimp
Come on Grimmjow be in this!!!!!!!
wow, I have to check it out, the previous was one of the best DS games fit well
That's cool, I'm really enjoying the first one...I wonder if they'll up the Special Move/Combo number since to me, after playing other fighting games felt a little limited. Either way, this is something I will most likely be getting.
The time for the sequel to the best DS fighting game of all time has come my friends
ooo teams ONLINE! YES FINALLY!!!
everyone tlking abot the bounto saga lol u guys are far behind im at ep 171 lol this show rcks just cant get a good version of the game(lost my ds) :(
Sounds interesting enough to warrant a buy....Still not completely sure, though.
Seems good, but seeing the daunting Menos Grande being used just screams that it is going to be cheap. Although I am still getting it.
I think this was released in Japan a long while ago. My friend says it's less broken than the first, but I felt the first wasn't very broken, aside from WiFi VS lag.
Well, as someone who didn't buy the first, if it has more characters/stuff then I guess I'll buy it. The graphics look really polished compared to the first one too.
that trivia element looks annoying
the bounto saga was boring it could've used more fighting and interesting characters
why is everyone bagging on the Bounto saga?
Wouldn't mind getting this just to see some more Kuukaku Shiba, AKA my girlfriend's clone (right down to the fun parts :-) )
I want this game so bad!!!!!!
@ cayne_phoenix Trust me that once you actually SEE the Bounto Saga you will wish you just skipped it and waited for the Arrancar Saga. Actually, you'd be better off just reading the manga where you don't have to worry about fillers and boring stories that don't matter to the REAL storyline.
im more interested in the Bounto saga than the Save Rukia saga. so tired of that.
Sounds promising.
Nice.
Can't wait.
