For those with Warlord Tendencies

I have a passion for most things medieval, not just the swords, armor and other weapons (but they're at the top of the list), but anything else that might have a similar theme. I came across this game while browsing the used games racks at the local EB and geeked almost immediately. The 14th century is an incredibly interesting era in history- at least from a point of view with an interest in such things to begin with. You start as a lowly mercenary currently off-contract and looking for work. I'll fast forward past all of the bits and pieces that make this game awesome that have already been explained by everyone else and leave you with this: in no other game will you have the ability to assemble such a varied and powerful array of soldier types from footmen and archers to heavily armored knights and cavalry to siege works, and be able to deploy them on the fly. The game's heavier on tactics early in the game as all of your units need to be trained and equipped (and upgraded as often as possible) and the only way they progress is to be put to use in battle. With the arrival of the new-gen systems this game doesn't have the pop it once did but in the beginning? Highly addictive- I spent more hours than I'd feel comfortable admitting to as I relived all of my adolescent dreams of knighthood and battle. I'm not sure if it was a balancing issue or what but I was literally unstoppable with fully upgraded Armored Knights and Lancers- even against foot soldiers that they were supposed to be vulnerable to. Leading a heavy conroi of either type wreaked havoc in any formation on the ground as well as other invariably weaker cavalry units. They were the best overall type because they could move fast on horseback, the charge under momentum would blow units aside and they're harder to bring down than other units (unless you got surrounded and couldn't break free). I'd switch out a troop of heavy Armored Knights with swords instead of spears or lances if their was a chance of that occurring. I'm geeking out again. I'd really love for this sort of game to be made for the XB One, but I'm in a minority, I know.
