BOD is Exemplary in it's genre and the fact that it's so unknown is such a disgrace in gaming industry.
- One of the best combat systems of all time. the combat system is similar to Ocarina of time a bit. you lock on enemy, dodge , and deliver the hit. at the first, you just use simple attacks. but after a few levels, you must use variety of special attacks to defeat your enemy which never ever makes the game and combat boring.
- 4 completely different characters with different weapons and special attacks and feeling.
- Stunning animations for it's time. Animations like running, swinging the sword or reflex of the character's body when falling is just way beyond of 2001.
- Gore ! yes, realistic blood and gore and cutting your enemy limbs and head is one of the things that truly add up to the whole experience.
- Some very atmospheric and worthy soundtracks.
- Good and suitable length.
- very good graphics for it's time.
- just right difficulty which gives you challenge but never makes you angry. ( OK, maybe very few times. ) of course I have only finished the game with Sargon ( the knight )
- Welcomed RPG elements like levelling up.
Bad things about the game:
- Baaaad story. this game could be one of the best games of all time if it had a dramatic or sad story. ( I think it had the potential )
but instead, developers chose the nauseating "defeat the ancient devil who is rising and bring goodness to the land" theme without any kind of twist or creativity. and although the story is shallow and without any kind of complexity, there is still plot hole in it. for example, there is a place named temple of Ianna which game states that this place is hidden and it's only revealed to chosen one ( who is you ) but when you go there, you see herds of orcs and trolls ! believe me, in this game the least thing you care about is the story.
- Some levels are a bit frustrating.
- sometimes, it's hard to hit the enemy because of the flaws in lock-on-taget system of the game.
To sum up the review, I must say this game is a proof that a game shouldn't be always famous or get +9 reviews scores and sales to be good. this game deserved attention as much as any other game out there. but because of bad marketing and low budget and hype ( I am not sure about low budget, I am just guessing ) this game couldn't reach the position it should.
but this game has it's own fans and surely they don't forget this great game.
