- Sep 14, 2011 8:11 am GMTWell I know most of us got to know each other through the Dead Or Alive series. Now we get the 1st official DOA game without Itagaki-san and it is coming to both Playstation 3 and Xbox 360.
Here is the official site:
http://teamninja-studio.com/teamninja/doa5/
Looks to be Kasumi - Sep 14, 2011 11:14 pm GMTThe gameplay trailer didn't have anything too surprising in it. Hayate was fighting Ryu. The counters are still there, the environmental hazards are still there. I don't know if the slow motion that was in the video is going to make it into the gameplay somehow, but really, it just seems like the same Dead or Alive as always, which is good.
Also, the fact that it's actually going to be on the PS3 as well means that I can actually play this one, because I'm not buying a system just to play one game.

Very interesting to hear Hayashi's early plans for DOA 5. Also looks like using hot spot attacks will be very important. I hope they don't do an instant KO type area like one of the 3D MKs had.

Very interesting to hear about the sweat thing. I wonder if the fighters will be all wet if we hit them into like a river or something like in the Forest area in DOA 3 or the Cherry Blossom area in DOA 4. - Sep 17, 2011 3:17 am GMTTalk about being faithful, Tee. I'm more interested in how the plot develops. If memory serves, DOATEC is destroyed. I'm not sure where they'd go from there. They introduced new characters in DOA 4 and could expand their backstory or futures, but I haven't grown attached to them as much as the original few. Is Christie still alive? Or has Helena gotten her revenge? I don't recall this fact.
Games rarely interest me now. I still get my regular of gaming updates, but I haven't played in months. More disappointingly, I haven't enjoyed one for over a year now.

Talk about being faithful, Tee.
Haha, I still come here don't I? Anyway always been a fan of the DOA series, I still play DOA 4. I believe the only character that more then likely died is Bayman in DOA 4. I'll be very interested in seeing what happens with Koroko and Helena in this game.
I want to get DOA
once my local GameStop finally gets in a copy, I heard the story mode in that kind of works like the new MK, and goes through DOA 1-4 to tell you the official story. - Sep 26, 2011 12:55 am GMTAs long as I can still play as Bayman and suplex ****ers through the floor, I'm happy.

"For those that understand, no explanation is necessary; for those that don't, no explanation will ever be good enough." - Sep 26, 2011 11:30 pm GMTAs much as I feel attached to the DOA series, I don't think I'll be getting DOA 5 if the core gameplay remains unchanged, which is likely to happen. *slaps forehead* It's a series right? Better graphics, costumes, new characters and environments aren't so compelling for me to make a purchase anymore, at least when it comes to fighting games. That doesn't mean I won't be playing DOA anymore.
Onto other matters, did ya realize that this board is no longer listed under basic search? You'll have to go through advanced search. This place is sinking deeper into oblivion.
Have you heard of a game named Dark Souls? It is said to be similar to Demon's Souls, a game produced by the same developer. And King's Field before those two, too. I played neither one of them. From the videos and comments I have seen so far, it's an action RPG that plays like Baldur's Gate, but has more intricate battle movements such as parrying and mechanics like a limited stamina bar for actions, and heftier punishment for careless, superficial gameplay strategies. As its tagline goes, ''Prepare to Die.''
Demon's Souls was famous for being hard to the average gamer.
I've only ever played two RPGs, they were Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance and Enchant Arms. With grand bosses and enemies of cool, varying designs, challenging gameplay, non-linear settings with multiple choices and a high replay value(may sound generic, but check it out!), I must say, even if I'm aware I'm not a RPG player, I'm quite looking forward to spend my life in this one.
Here's one trailer:

It's coming out this month, depending on where you are. It's already released in Japan. For the PS3 and 360. I will only be reunited with my console in late november, so I'll tend to my patience for now.
As Mmac used to say, cheery bye! >_> <_<
--- - Sep 27, 2011 8:20 am GMTDemon's Soul and Dark Souls is made by Atlus, they are a nice company. Really loving a game they made that came out in July called "Catherine" it is labeled as a horror/puzzle game, and is heavy on the puzzle part.
Team NINJA is set to release an extended version of the TGS trailer of DOA 5. The shorter version can be seen on the official site. The extended version is said to show the 2nd layer of the level they are on. Good to see Ryu Hayabusa is not being "killed" by that knock off.
Dragnon, interesting that you can't search for this board anymore. I haven't searched for it since we first started coming to this board. I put it in my board favorites and have left it there ever since. - Sep 28, 2011 1:52 am GMTReaching the board by doing a search for ''blackjack'' was how I first arrived, and it became a habit. I have this address in my favorites too, but my fingers always just automatically perform a search.
I saw the clip, and I wasn't wowed. But I am happy that DOA 5 was announced, it's like the fond parts of the past being revived. I wonder how Ninja Gaiden 3 is going to turn out. Itagaki is developing his own game called Devil's Third. And I can't help expressing how Ryu Hayabusa isn't the winner of every DOA tournament having faced hordes of demons.
Perhaps he's not as good without a sword and ninpo.
--- - Sep 28, 2011 5:25 pm GMTOut of curiosity, can anyone explain the Itagaki deal to me? Was he booted from the franchise, or did he leave?

"For those that understand, no explanation is necessary; for those that don't, no explanation will ever be good enough." - Sep 28, 2011 6:01 pm GMTAccording to this article,
(http://www.1up.com/news/itagaki-leaving-team-ninja-suing)
he has not only resigned but is suing Tecmo due to a monetary dispute among other things. That's his side of the story. It wouldn't be surprising to hear a different story from Tecmo representatives.
--- - Sep 28, 2011 6:05 pm GMTAnd I saw a few trailers about Catherine. There seems to be a disparity between cutscenes and actual gameplay content. You would think there would be more than climbing and avoiding nightmarish obstacles.

There is, you have a mini-game you can play that works like the "nightmare" puzzles but has no time limit. Then you can talk to all the people at the Stray Sheep which gives you clues about what is really happening as well as text and/or call Katherine/Catherine. Though the meat of the game is the nightmare stages at night that all end with a "boss fight"
As far as Itagaki goes, that is the just of it. Right before he resigned though there were female Team NINJA members that accused him of sexual harassment. I don't think they ever really said if that was true or not. I guessed it was, because right after is when he quit and sued Tecmo for not paying him those bonuses. - Sep 29, 2011 5:46 am GMTCatherine is packaged as a quasi-dating sim, with the girl troubles and the choice that you make between the two ladies. Somehow you'd expect more than a puzzle platform. The little bits that you mention about talking to other characters between stages definitely help the atmosphere though.
The sexual harassment allegations does cloud the situation of his departure, but the only person who does know would be him, really.
,
Ah, I'm really looking forward to Dark Souls. I don't know of any other games that might interest me as much.
--- - Sep 29, 2011 5:56 am GMTCome to think about it, those years at the forum with you guys really had a place in my life. The conversations at AOL, hell I even remember mailing pokemon cards, dvds to various people like Voodoo and DK. I think I socialized with you people on a scale that invited more creativity and joy than with the people around me. Alas, all things come to an end..the good ones being more noticeable when they do. I wish you guys well, wherever you are, whether in the U.S of A, Down Under or Hong Kong.
--- - Oct 5, 2011 2:16 pm GMTHong Kong here ! Just to say Hi.
Full Trailer is awesome.

---(|^_^|) T'ai Chi Quan is Awesome!!! (/^_^\) ----\\Tai Chi Q'uan is Awesome!// (/^_^\) - Oct 5, 2011 6:06 pm GMTWow, the full version is indeed awesome. Thank you for posting that LF2K, as I was not even expecting them to show it till Friday. Also great to see you are still popping in.
- Oct 5, 2011 10:51 pm GMTI kinda hope that they don't keep that slo mo thing if it is indeed a feature, or that there's an option to turn it off. I could see that getting annoying really fast.

Bloody oath, mate. G'day from Down Under.

I think that is in the game, it may very well be what Hayashi was talking about when he said there will be "special" locations to trigger events. Plus this slow mo thing is all the craze in the fighting genre, so it was just a matter of time before it came to DOA.
BTW I finally did get a copy of DOA
, did enjoy the little teaser to DOA 5 at the end of the story mode. So far the gameplay is pretty nice and I think they did a nice job of making it work to the 3DS which I think doesn't lend itself to well to a fighting game to begin with.
