The premise of this point-and-click adventure game is simple. Your task is to infiltrate the Black Sect and steal their spellbook within three days in order to make the town all happy again. That's it. That's all there is. And so, after the opening visuals of a murder, book being taken, and sect members looking all cult-like, you're thrown into the game starting in the village.

The visuals are rather nice, and there are some ambient sounds in areas adding life to the environments. You do notice the progression of time as the skies will darken as the sun sets and some new ambient sounds get added. The same holds true for sunrise. And while there isn't much in the way of animation, what little there is looks all right. Already it seems to be a decent game.

The game plays like your typical adventure game. You've a menu of actions resembled by visual icons that can be used to manipulate objects and an inventory that only allows five items to be carried. With the amount of objects in the game and only three days to accomplish your task, the game can be pretty frustrating. As you move from screen-to-screen, time passes. Also, the NPCs come-and-go meaning you'll likely spend some time waiting for them to show up, or leave, depending on what you're trying to do. If you waste too much time or are not careful, before you know it, you've lost.

And so the game begins to fail with the puzzles. Every adventure game has some puzzles that really give your brain a workout and something to do. They are the core mechanic of these games. Even the hardest adventure games out there give you a clue or solution somewhere that will help you get through. This one isn't so nice. Now, because this game is on a time limit, I can't forgive the difficulty and tedium of many of the puzzles. You really can't afford running back and forth for items that might help you over the next roadblock. There has to be some logic to it. A player must come across something that would give him the idea to manipulate an object in a certain way, or figure out the solution to a puzzle. Cryptic notes, strange pictures on the walls... We're used to this kind of thing. Most of the time, this game spawns the "how-the-heck-was-I-suppose-to-know-to-do-that" response.

I have always enjoyed adventure games of this sort. The interesting worlds, beautiful environments, creative puzzles, and the wonderful characters and creatures inhabiting them. This one just missed the bar by a lot. In fact, they didn't even make the jump. This game fails to evoke any feeling whatsoever from anything. There's no real interaction with the NPCs. When you talk to them, they flat-out tell you what they want. They have no personality at all. When you get what they want, they're happy and give you something or simply let you pass to the next screen. That's all. Done. There's nothing that immerses you into the world and gets you to care about what you're doing. Nothing to give you any sense of adventure or that magical charm these games typically convey. It's simply dull and boring.

At the end of the day, if and when you manage to succeed with your quest, at least you get some kind of real ending and closure. There is a twist, however it would have gotten more of a reaction had there been any depth to this game.

This is a terrible adventure game that leaves a very bad taste in my mouth. Timed adventure games just aren't fun at all especially with the lack of in-game clues and hints. It can reach the point where you just cycle through your actions hoping for a result. At any rate, It's not worth any time and certainly not anymore attention.
