the bioshock world is the greatest environment ever created in gaming history.

User Rating: 9.5 | BioShock X360
the world of bioshock, in all its post-deco, quasi-deluvian glory, is a work of art. it is a joy to navigate the various levels and meander through the odd wonder of an undersea city, replete wtih the ambience of a post-deco/neon gilt environment, the likes of which reared its head in various urban enclaves during the american post-war era, but never reached the full fruition showcased in bioshock.

this environment, with its unfailing richness and inventive authenticity, alone warrants a near perfect score.

yet alas, the gameplay is almost equally memorable. and the characters and adversaries are brilliantly unusual and intriguing.

only one drawback -- the game develops key characters on an unequal scale. the uber-homo/psycho sander cohen is a richly vivid and memorable character, whereas other bosses of seemingly equal import are barely one-dimensional in comparison.

at any rate, can't wait for the sequel.
