Bionic Commando Premiere: Retrospective Video Feature
One bionic arm, nearly 20 years of history. We take a look back at the original Bionic Commando.
Unlike most game franchises that have been around for nearly 20 years, Bionic Commando hasn't glutted the market with spin-offs and half-baked follow-ups. In fact, apart from a well-received semi-sequel for the Game Boy Color back in 1999, the world has only seen Bionic Commando recently in compilation form. Thankfully that long wait for some new arm-swinging action is about to come to an end with Capcom's upcoming Bionic Commando for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC. Yesterday, we learned about how the process of creating this hot-looking game has been a truly worldwide effort, with input coming in on the game from Japan, North America, and Sweden. In today's video piece, we hear from Nobuyuki Matsushima, head of Capcom's consumer games division, about the history of the original Bionic Commando game, particularly what it was like working at Capcom during the development of that ground-breaking title.
Once you're done with the interview, you'll want to check out the first trailer of Capcom's upcoming sci-fi adventure game, featuring a healthy chunk of gameplay from Bionic Commando for you to digest until our next update on the game.
Cbomb75 I hear ya! We might be getting old but those memories and days can't be bought.
Bionic Command and Strider were two NES games that definitely upstaged their arcade counterparts...Wonder if Capcom is going to revisit Strider too!
How come no one has even mentioned the original ARCADE game Bionic Commando? That was a classic and started it all...I remember pounding quarters into that machine like it was going out of style right next to the orginal Street Fighter and Rygar......I'm wicked old....
Looks and seems ok, don't know what all the hype is about though.
@heyhamburgerpim I didn't know it was Mike Patton in another videogame, but that just seals the deal. The guy is a legend. The Darkness was great, but Patton made it substantially better. @bartonie Why are you still here?
Slayer420 -- the voice actor is Mike Patton from Faith No More / Mr. Bungle / Tomahawk. Check out the story at www.pitchforkmedia.com. Killer!
Whoa man, you say PS3 only has two good exclusives. Lets see 1. Uncharted 2. Metal Gear Solid 4 3. Haze 4. Unreal tournament 3 timed exclusive. 5. Ratchet and Clank 6. Final Fantasy 13 All of those are upcoming PS3 exclusives. How many upcoming exclusives does your system have. The PS3 as just as many or more. Now that EA has brought bioware, just watch Mass Effect will be eventually making it way over to the PS3. So will Bioshock. But who would want those games when I have much cooler PS3 exclusive content that I can play.
Looks like a huge playground to swing around. The Arm is massive looking, but it still fits into the story well. I hope future updates tell more about the range of uses for the Arm. Swinging obviously...but how far? What about targeting? Will the Arm track and grapple the best spot? Can you pull or push people at a distance? Weapons exclusive to the Arm? Too many questions unanswered so far.
Wow, that trailer was very impressive. This is a must track game for me and a sequel that has been long overdue. I do agree with strawberryheart... BC sounds like Solid Snake. Anyone know if it is the same voice actor? I am totally down with that if so.
Um...which arm is bionic again? It seems to switch sides in the screenshots....
I've never played the originals, but this looks utterly amazing, and as a fellow proponent of Dreadlocks, Mr B Commando's hair-doo was IMO a Good Idea. Oh yeah... @Bartonie: Guess what? Nobody cares.
Is it just me or does the main character sound like Solid Snake?
"Bionic Commando, this game might be alright, but I still on my capcom boycott. They have to pay for not keeping DMC4 exclusive to the PS3." Why do you care? Honestly....
yeah, you go play your vastly-superior-in-but-apparently-in-no-way that-improves-gameplay-or-graphics ps3 with 2 good exclusive games.....
I've been waiting for a major console remake/re-imagining/sequel to this game since the original! This is the best gaming news in a long, long while.

yeah, this game might push the 360 boundary but won't come close to the PS3. If they can fit it on a last gen dvd9, then it really isn't worth my time and $60 anyway. Got to get back to Folklore now.

this game was very good for a nes game. It pushed all the boundreys on graphics, gameplay, wepons, side scroll, top veiw. It had it all. pluse a plot line, i know that sounds stupid but many games back the didn't have plot lines. I see this game being awsone if they do it right , but wroung and it would be crap.
I can hear him fine..not sure what the fuss is about
I'd like to hear what the guy is saying, but I can barely hear him over all that annoying music. Come on, Gamespot, get it together.
Looks like Spider-Man, except better.
well see how the remake will be
old school fun born again, or something that will never be?
