The Xbox One must-haves.

Microsoft's Xbox One was released in November 2013, and months after its release, you may be wondering what's worthwhile playing on the new system. As it turns out, there are plenty of great games already available for the successor to the wildly popular Xbox 360. Check out our list of top Xbox One titles below, and let us know what you think about our picks in the comments. Of course, with even more games scheduled to come out, expect us to add and update this list as the months roll on!

2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil

"More than a cynical cash-in, 2014 FIFA World Cup's worth comes from the depth of its key game modes" -- Read our review

Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag

"There's an incredible scope to what you can do in Black Flag, with a level of harmony between its component parts that encourages you to try it all, and a story that keeps you invested throughout the whole thing." -- Read our review

Battlefield 4

"Battlefield 4 multiplayer is a blast and definitely the best reason to return to this hallowed franchise or dive in for the first time. Though the campaign makes strides in the right direction, it remains a sideshow to the main event. Expansive and exciting, challenging and empowering, Battlefield 4 multiplayer is a thrilling endeavor in this generation or the next." -- Read our review

Call of Duty: Ghosts

"From an exuberant campaign full of spectacle and variety to the way Extinction's unpredictable aliens force you to use those targeting skills in entirely new ways, Ghosts strikes an excellent balance between the familiar and the novel. This is a game that's keenly aware of the series' strengths, but doesn't find itself beholden to them." -- Read our review

Child of Light

"There are so few games willing to explore that dull ache that I became mesmerized by Aurora's journey, even when I needed to step away from her plight while I regained my composure. Child of Light is a wonderfully realized, somber adventure, and I couldn't be happier that such a game exists." -- Read our review

Dead Rising 3

"Survival may not be always be pretty in Dead Rising 3, but it's fun to roam around in this LA-inspired setting for Capcom's latest take on a zombie apocalypse. You'll be able to hop in a car and traverse from one end of this city to the other in about five minutes, but the thrill is in the journey rather than the destination." -- Read our review

FIFA 14

"This is the quintessential version of FIFA 14. It brings a level of authenticity never before seen in the genre and sets new standards for player control and stadium atmosphere. Too often have we seen football games flounder in the transition to new consoles, but FIFA 14 for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One is a step above it's peers." -- Read our review

Zoom zoom with Forza 5.

Forza Motorsport 5

"It's far more than just a great racing sim, or a gorgeous showcase for the types of feats the Xbox One hardware is capable of. This is a game built on the romantic thrill of motorsport in all its forms, and that love for its subject matter is all but impossible to resist." -- Read our review

Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes

"Though it's unusual for everything to take place in a single location, there's so much to do and see, and whether you take a stealthy or head-on approach, infiltrating Camp Omega in Ground Zeroes is a thrilling experience that shouldn't be missed." -- Read our review

NBA 2K14

"he on-court action in NBA 2K14 isn't markedly different from the way the current generation versions play, which means its excellent, and by far the best we've ever seen in virtual basketball. What's so remarkable is how the upgraded visuals enhance the overall experience." -- Read our review

Peggle 2

"It's the very epitome of a pure gaming experience, one that can be as deep or as simple as you want it to be, and one that never loses sight of what makes it so appealing to so many people." -- Read our review

Rayman Legends

"Momentum is the name of the game in this 2D platformer. Rayman runs, leaps, swings, glides, and swims with a kinetic grace that compels you ever onward. Being able to squeeze past spikes and thunder across toppling towers should be expected in any adventure that presents such formidable challenges, but what makes Legends special is how joyful such movements are." -- Read our review

Strider

"From the moment you embark on your journey right up until the final deathblow, Strider is a blast to play. Controlling this agile ninja feels empowering right out of the gate, and each new upgrade brings with it an enjoyable new way to engage your foes." -- Read our review

Super Time Force

"Super Time Force gleefully shreds conventional concepts of time travel in both its writing and gameplay, making it a refreshing twist on the side-scrolling shooter." -- Read our review

Titanfall

"The high-flying action intertwines beautifully with the brutish, tactical titan battles, creating battlefields that crackle with possibility. Titanfall is a leap forward for shooters, a game that combines the vibrant and new with the tried and true to create something special." -- Read our review

It gets dangerous in Dead Rising 3. Click below to see more screens from our top Xbox One games.

Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition

"What's most remarkable about Tomb Raider is how its many elements so perfectly complement each other, so that no matter which activity you're currently engaged in, you're fully invested. Even the straightforward platforming, in which Lara's sticky hands ensure there's little chance of failure, is thrilling thanks to brief quick-time events that keep your mind focused on even your smallest actions." -- Read our reviews

Trials Fusion

"This is another expertly designed entry in the enthralling series. Though the core action remains largely unchanged, it's as exciting as it has ever been, thanks in part to the gorgeous visual design that brings each location to life." -- Read our review

Watch Dogs

"Watch Dogs is a lushly produced and riotous game with an uncanny ability to push you from one task to the next, each of which is just as fun as the last. This version of Chicago is crawling with a hyperbolic number of degenerates, and I didn't mind squashing pyromaniacs and slavers" -- Read our review

When I do get the Xb1, I will be getting DR3 and TF and Ghosts(Ghosts only because I got the 360 version+upgrade).Nothing else here is of interest. But looking forward to Sunset Overdrive.

These are great games.  My favorites are Titanfall, Dead Rising 3(awesome game, especially for a lauch title) Forza 5, Killer Instinct, Max the Curse of Brotherhood(awesome and underrated game) and yes Ryse!  I loved Ryse. The graphics alone are better than ANY game next gen.  I have ps4 also but I recently traded in Infamous( I hated this game) for Watchdogs which I will say plays and looks very nice.,.,.

all great games, and killer instinct is the best fighter on the market. the x1 one is better choice that sony's ps4 which will not get any new tittles as far studio games until early 2015. while the x1 will have more than just indie tittles this year to offer us.

Many of these are on PS4, WiiU and even current gen. I will jump on Xbox One when they announce next gen sequels to Gears of War, Left 4 Dead, Alan Wake, Deadlight and State of Decay.

By looking at this list I can tell you haven't played killer instinct since launch.

With arcade mode, new characters and alternative customizable costumes that game is a lot better now. For me it is atleast one of the 5 better games on the platform (assassin's creed, fifa, forza and titanfall are the others).

Battlefield 4???? You have got to be shitting me. LMAO This game still will not play right on my 360 so i will not buy it for XB1. When they wrote the review for it were they smoking a crack pipe??? "Battlefield 4 multiplayer is a thrilling endeavor in this generation or the next" How can this be? It must have frozen on them and all the other bugs as well and they still gave it a 8/10 i think :(

u missed Ryse Son of Rome.....the most underrated and underhyped game on the X1 till now  imo

Definitely missing PvZ. Free DLC every month? Hours and hours of awesome, original shooter fun? Very high value considering its only $40. KI is great also, although is lacking in the value a bit. Plenty more greats to come, for BOTH consoles. Wish I had the time for both.

killer instinct was spammed pre launch wow, and call of duty is shit, ive got it, and played all of them since cod4, this one is clearly shit and just filler for this list.

think im gonna sell my current gen console and stick with my 360 and ps3

TheArcade

No Killer Instinct on this list despite the fact Microsoft said it sold well, and a lot of the top FGC players approve. What kind of list is this?

For the PS4 and XB1 these are literally just lists of every single game on the platform...

Pretty underwhelming list of games. I'll stick with the 360 for now

Dead Rising 3 and Forza Motorsport are the only exclusives.  The others are on PS4 or pc.

TommyT456
TommyT456

I played the Dead Rising demo and was literally embarrassed for MS. It looks like a last gen game and was so rubbish we didn't even bother finishing the half hour or whatever it was we had for the demo. Awful game!

@skiggy34 Very true, i am enjoying the XBOX One library a TON right now.  But my PS4 is starting to collect a bit of dust since I do not like Second Son.  I only got my PS4 for the exclusives as I don't like the PS controller for first person shooters hence I am still waiting for good exclusives to come out for my PS4.

skiggy34

@mr_nee Nice try D1ck smoke.  You are not getting away with this "xbox has no good exclusive" BS you sony morons tried to pull last gen......

@Vinnvn Well considering it helped sell double the amount in consoles in the UK I think the X1 is alive and very healthy........ Now this is better... RIP Sonys 1st Party Studios and exclusives....

Kunakai

@Vinnvn  It sold consoles didn't it? Granted I didn't buy an Xbox One, I've got a PC but the fact remains that it swayed people to buy 'em.

I think it's time you got a life and quit worrying about the Xbox, since you hate it so much.

Seriously, you sound like a dumb kid everytime you try insulting someone over their console choice.

skiggy34

@eternaldragoonx LOL I know.. Now watch them make an article for ps4's games and they will mention EVERY game.......  They always leave games out on Xbox...

@BigBadBanther  I enjoy BF4 on the 360, the bugs really don't bother me all that much. The series hasn't been as good since BFBC2 in my opinion though :(

@callsignalpha  Is Ryse a game that we're going to look back on as one of this generations greatest? - definitely not. But is it a really fun game that shows off the gorgeous graphical capability of the X1? - yes, for sure.

I'm not sure I'd pay full-price for it, but it's definitely worth picking up a copy second-hand or download in future once the price comes down a bit more on xbox live.

dogman7

@callsignalpha  I own an X1 and ryse as well, and I have to say that game might be one of the most bland games I've ever played.

@DrKill09 You forget Killer Instinct , PvZ, & Rise

jttwister9
jttwister9

@TommyT456  ya ok idiot the game has literally hundred of zombies on screen at a time no console is going to be able to register all those animations at 1080p game was good stop being a hater

slaughterdj
slaughterdj

@TommyT456 Dead Rising was never to show off the graphics, they were utilizing next-gen to cram thousands of zombies on screen at once. Could have NEVER been made for that. Entertaining, my only complaint was that it didn't really get much new gameplay features compared to the past Dead Rising games. Would have liked it more if it had focused on the horror element.

hystavito

@TommyT456  I had some fun with it for awhile, but yeah it wasn't great.  I got bored and never finished it.

@aus_pride @alterthending  Why on Earth do you even visit this site if you believe that the journalists here "don't know what they're doing"? You don't seem to know what you're doing yourself!

@Vinnvn Your entire existence on this thread, and many Xbox threads I've seen, is to troll and devalue another brand's fans. You represent a portion of the PS4 crowd that many have come to roll their eyes at after the overuse of Xbox memes and jokes. You argue for better resolution and frame rates, and yet you continue to play PS4 rather than sticking with the PC. You act like graphics make the game, when it is about experience and overall quality as a whole. And lastly, you falsely assume being a good troll is proclaiming others to be butthurt. You lead a pitiful life if trolling Xbox articles is your source of enjoyment. So please, sit down and shut up. You make the PS4 crowd and tasteful trolling look bad, amateur.

Sincerely,

A Xbox, PS, Nintendo, and PC gamer
