Batman Arkham City: Armored Edition

"From the speedy exhilaration of soaring high above the streets to the atmospheric thrill of discovering long-forgotten secrets in the tunnels below Gotham, this is an unforgettable adventure that will keep you coming back to the cape and cowl long after you've seen the credits roll." -- Read our review

Bit.Trip Presents...Runner 2: Future Legend of Rhythm Alien

"Runner 2 doesn't just offer you an entertaining experience; it throws its arm around you companionably, ushers you into its whimsical world, and makes you feel like part of something special." -- Read our review

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2

"Though it's a shame that league play is dead on arrival, there's still a lot of taut action to enjoy online, helping Black Ops II provide the Wii U with its first great shooter experience." -- Read our review

Darksiders 2

"The Wii U version of Darksiders II may suffer from some additional technical hitches, but this vast adventure is so absorbing, it's still easy to lose yourself in its oppressive world." -- Read our review

Deus Ex: Human Revolution -- Director's Cut

"Human Revolution sets you free into its world and gives you the tools to succeed. In combat, this means wielding guns and grenades; when sneaking, it means performing stealthy assassinations and activating temporary invisibility; and when exploring, that means punching through concrete walls and breaking into storage facilities." -- Read our review

Lego City Undercover

"There are bigger, more complex, more beautiful open-world games on the market. But none of them are this good at making you feel so young at heart." -- Read our review

Mario Kart 8

"Mario Kart 8 shifts its focus from chaotic weapons to precise driving, and that makes this one of the most rewarding entries in the series" -- Read our review

Mass Effect 3

"When your goal is no less than ensuring the survival of an entire galaxy, sacrifice is inevitable, and Mass Effect 3 makes sure you feel each and every one." -- Read our review

Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate

"It's easily the best Monster Hunter game so far, and while it would be nice to see a console sequel with more up-to-date visuals and all-new locations, Ultimate is an great entry into the Wii U catalog." -- Read our review

Link goes on an ocean voyage in Wind Waker HD. Click below to see more screens from our top Wii U games.

New Super Mario Bros U

"Nintendo seemingly recaptured traditional, distilled platforming, but also incorporated a newfound attention to modern gaming trends and expectations. It's a challenging platformer, an excellent recreation of Mario's best moments, and it's the perfect way to kick-off Nintendo's journey into HD." -- Read our review

Nintendo Land

"Nintendo Land isn't just a fine showcase of the Wii U's capabilities, though it certainly is that. It's also a great game in its own right, and particularly if you have friends or family members with whom you can play all of the multiplayer attractions, it's a great way to start getting a lot of enjoyment out of the new console immediately." -- Read our review

Pikmin 3

"There's nothing quite like Pikmin out there, and its delightful combination of survival strategy and unflinching cuteness should entertain you throughout this lengthy adventure." -- Read our review

Rayman Legends

"Momentum is the name of the game in this 2D platformer. Rayman runs, leaps, swings, glides, and swims with a kinetic grace that compels you ever onward. Being able to squeeze past spikes and thunder across toppling towers should be expected in any adventure that presents such formidable challenges, but what makes Legends special is how joyful such movements are." -- Read our review

Super Mario 3D World

"Mario has always had that uncanny ability to cross the boundaries of age and gender, to bring a smile to the face of every player who crosses his path. Super Mario 3D World is no different. This is a dazzlingly inventive game that brings the fun in spades, and will leave you grinning like a loon from start to finish." -- Read our review

There are a lot of heros in Wonderful 101.

The Legend of Zelda The Wind Waker HD

"The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD is a loving restoration of a bold and beautiful adventure, with Nintendo shifting some elements of the original game's aesthetic, and streamlining the pace where it had occasionally sagged." -- Read our review

The Wonderful 101

"This is an ambitious, funny, and inventive game that's keen to impress but slightly scrappy in its presentation, packed with ideas but is slightly confused about how to express all its abundant creativity." -- Read our review

All I know is that my wife and I played the demo of Mario Kart 8 at a Gamestop and it was really great. I want it now!

All of my hopes lie with smash brothers atm.  Monster hunter was great, but aside from that, nothing else is really compelling enough for me to care.  I wasn't a huge fan of the mario games so far, and pikmin isn't my thing.

Now that I think about it... is it even worth playing the wii u just for one game this winter?  Dark days for nintendo console gamers.  3ds may be booming, but it saddens me that they all but abandoned wii u.  Smash brothers is literally the only game that could possibly cause mass amounts of people to buy the console... but even then the 3ds version is essentially going to be the same thing, but with an exclusive game mode to boot.

This is good bringing praise to the underrated Wii U. It is a really good system with the best games at the moment and it has backwards compatible which is awesome. Not to mention the TV features like changing the volume and channel and play the game on the Wii U Game Pad screen as well. Hopefully when Mario Kart 8 is out that game will sell a lot of units.

It is good to see an article showing the virtues of the Wii U and helping destroy the notion it has no games.  I own Wii U, XB1 and PS4 (although I mainly game on PC) and my Wii U gets far more play time than the other 2.  It is disgusting to see the media spout on about a game drought on Wii U when the other 2 have had utterly nothing worthy of them that you could count on more than one hand in 6 months now, after all the hype.  What we get are rushed launch titles or rehashed remakes.  if you are a gamer, and still had your PS3 or 360, there was, in retrospect, no good reason to jump ship.  I still own my PS3 and 360 but feel sorry for the people who traded theirs in back in November 2013 (many did).  They won't see the benefit for at least a year after they did.  The Wii U, being backwardly compatible, also has some stellar games like Xenoblade, Last Story, Pandora's Tower as well as the more well known Wii games.  It helps when there are quiet times, a luxury PS4 and XB1 do not have.

I own most of these games and I don't regret purchasing them for my Wii U. I still want to get Deus Ex, Darksiders 2, and repurchase Lego City.

Donkey country tropical freeze must be here, the graphics are good, is challenging, the level design is great, and the sound track is amazing

Where's Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze at? That game kicks New Super Mario Bros U's ass on every level.

Not one of them are worth a damn. They are either in better versions on another console, or just the same old recycled Nintendo crap.

Since you decided to include multiplatform titles, I would have put AC 4 on the list. The biggest omissions though to me are Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze and ZombiU.

Wii U has the best exclusives.  I have PC for everything else I want coming out.

I was eagerly awaiting getting a Wii U until I tried out my friends.

Turns out all the games I salivated over were very good but not that new or exciting.

Wind Waker HD is great but it's still just a port.

Pikmin 3 hasn't evolved much from the 1st or 2nd.

DK Tropical Freeze beats Returns but lacks the rhythm and flow of the 90's Donkey Kong Country games.

Mario 3D World ended up being much more boring than I had ever anticipated.

I own a Wii U, PS4, PS3, Xbox 360. All my games were choses for fun and great visuals. The Wii U is a fine system and while graphically may not be as powerful as the PS4 or Xbox 360. The Wii U can still pump out nice games. I am waiting now for Fatal Frame hopefully this year sometime. Hopefully Nintendo can implement a cloud like server for the Wii U. So they can enhance and pump up the graphics on their future games. Sony has already said they may not need to build a future PS5 system. Because the cloud server can handle graphical upgrades and backwards compatibility. This is what Nintendo needs now for the Wii U.

So glad I never wasted money on this garbage.

The Wii U has a lot of good games, but sadly it seems like this is the end of it. You can realistically expect 1 good game per year for the remaining 3 years and then its over.

I feel like this review should've came after the launch of Super Smash Bros. Wii U, anyone else agree that game should make this list?

Oh that's right, you jokers gave it a 6.0.

@kdavenport88 did the same... i bought one yesterday. Been playing mario kart all evening like i'm 10 again.

@argotto  Mario Kart Wii sold more than twice what Brawl did last generation. Mario Kart 8 has way more selling potential than Smash ever could.

@DarthLod Utter toss!  I own all the 'new' consoles and can honestly say, at the moment, the Wii U gets the most play time.  I own Deus Ex on both 360 and Wii U and the Wii U version destroys the 360 version.  So much more lighting and post-processing.  Having the inventory, quest markers and map on the gamepad really enhances the flow of the game.  Games like Zombi U also show that, when used correctly, the gamepad really enhances a game.  To call the likes of Mario etc... "Nintendo crap" just shows you up to be a Nintendo hater or, at least, a fanboy of another console.  I mainly game on PC and can honestly say that, as others have said, that by your logic 360/PS3/PS4/XB1 aren't worth a damn due to PC releases.  Fortunately we do not all have the brain of a turd like you. I suspect you read this article and realised the Wii U wasn't as bad as the school-kids would lead you to believe.

skateryanboarde
skateryanboarde

@DarthLod  I just thought I should tell you that your ignorance is showing. You might want to cover it up...

Mandrew257
Mandrew257

@DarthLod

By that logic. 90% of the games on PS3/PS4/360/X1 aren't worth a damn since they have PC releases.

The only Nintendo game that I'll admit is recycled is New Super Mario Bros U.

Everything else?

No.

Necrotron

@Defender1978  Aye, Nintendo knows how to get things done.  I just wish there were a few more exclusives to make the Wii U really pop as a system.

Yomigaeru
Yomigaeru

@rmiller365 Sounds like a good idea to me. Keep the traditional games on handhelds, but make an open world sub-series for consoles (assuming Nintendo continues making them).

skullscience77
skullscience77

@drekula2 The problem is that argument can be applied to any console of this gen.  Killzone, Titanfall, Deadrising, Thief, FFXIV, CoD, BF.  All of them been done before, none of them original.  So, you are either choosing to ignore this or are missing the very obvious point.  At least you know the Nintendo variants will likely be the pinnacle of what they do.  I am a PC gamer but I realise that, if I didn't own a Wii U, I would miss out on the best platformer, best kart game, Zelda, Metroid etc...

Yomigaeru
Yomigaeru

@honest_tony Is it confirmed that Nintendo will bring the new Fatal Frame over? I remember Zero being passed over for a localization in the States.

@DiverseGamer then stay on your own article than ranting about console that has games, do you not care about games?

rushiosan

@xcollector  3DS has tons of great games available, I wish Wii U had half of 3DS library... (in a matter of quality, not quantity)

abHS4L88
abHS4L88

@xcollector

Nintendo alone can supply around 3-5 amazing titles a year, yes they got off to a rocky start but just like Sony and Microsoft, they're learning how to be more efficient with development of their new console. This is not counting Indie support as well as 3rd party games (while limited will mostly be made up of exclusives).

WoodenStick
WoodenStick

@xcollector it seems that WiiU will have 2 exclusives every 4 months, Xbox One and PS4 has one exclusive every 4 months, the rest you can get on PC.

Vexov

@Superzone  I never checked that game out, but i know GS is horrible for reliable ratings. I much prefer my fellow gamers.

Necrotron

@nintendoboy16 @Mandrew257  An individual's opinion and review has never stopped a game from reaching a 'best games' list before.  Still, I'm curious about the curator's choice for it's absence.

@Mandrew257

He's just a brainless hater whose first instinct whenever he sees a Nintendo article is to automatically trash talk Nintendo no matter what the article is about.

Vexov

@WoodenStick @DiverseGamer  I care, so its sad when they become so limited by consoles, even consoles not that old :(

Vexov
Vexov

@WoodenStick @xcollector  Aside from exclusives, the Wii-U won't be getting a lot of games in the future that X1 and PS4 will get, you can already see it happening.

Its following the same path of the WII, which was really predicted before the system released.

WoodenStick
WoodenStick

@Vexov that's a problem but WiiU is cheap, you can also play Wii titles on it.
