Year in Review Intro

2009 was a remarkable year for the game industry that saw numerous game studios shut down while smaller independent studios made a name for themselves with exciting debut games. It was also the year that E3 returned to fill up the massive Los Angeles Convention Center like in previous years...and the year that E3 was taken by storm by motion-sensing controls and by a couple of guys who used to be in some British rock band called "The Beatles," or something like that. Follow the biggest news developments of the year with GameSpot's Year In Review, complete with links to major news stories and a timeline of major events.

This is really interesting. As cost continue to go up for major games more people are not spending a lot of money on games in general. With Gamefly, and rental stores now going to compete, with the cost of new games now at 60.00 more people will look at alternatives to buying games. Its will be easy in dollars that money spent this gen will look high, but sales numbers will not be as high as last gen. Add to that people wait for games to be cheaper later, or a sale at a game store. In addition, Piracy on Xbox 360, its going to be a hard year for developers to make the money to make many of those block buster games. Also there is a saturation of FPS out there.

Sony say hi to more console sales with GOW3, Heavy Rain, KZ3, Resistance 3, and Infamous 2, maybe MAG but lets not get carried away.
Microsoft say hi to rpg fans: Mass Effect 2, FF13(even though still on PS3 you know they'll get first dibs on DLC)
Nintendo say hi then say bye until the next Mario or Zelda

I have to say I think Microsoft should stay out of the motion cam games business. They don't look near as good as the PS3's titles especially EyePet.
Next year's review: Bill Gates finally got his head out of his a$$ and fixed most of the 360 failure rate problems.

I am not sure gamespot should be reviewing how the companies are doing. We don't really care. Why not talk about the games, cause that's what most of us are expecting watching the video. It's only a matter of time that the weak dies off and the strong survive. This continue expansion of the video game industry can't last forever. Someone must fall. Is gamespot going to talk about how the companies are doing next year around this time as well?
