Special Achievement

Best Original IP

It's easy to forget that the sequels of today were born from unique intellectual properties that at one point were brand new. But as the game industry has matured, so have various game franchises, in some cases churning out sequel after sequel after sequel. Unfortunately, all these sequels makes it increasingly difficult for original games to stand out among the crowd. Luckily, 2009 happened to be a particularly strong year for original content, giving us five fantastic nominees.

InFamous is worthy, surprised they didn't nominate Demon Souls though.

Shame, just a real shame. If you are even going to talk about infamous, you have to tell the tale how it got stomped by Prototype which was a good but not great game.

    Borderlands easily won this.

Dragon Age is not original. These games are a dime a dozen.

DA:O is enjoyable, yes. It surprised me at how good and addictive it actually was, horrid graphics notwithstanding. But seriously, BlazBlue should have at least been nominated in the top five. Well, it should have won, really, but these niche games really stand no chance against the juggernauts.

Voted inFamous, but you have to admit, Dragon Age Origins certainly is original. From what I've heard of the story it sounds like a dark force invades a medieval land. Totally never been done before, because Oblivion never existed.

All the people complaining about DAO not winning, please give it up. DAO is about as generic as an original IP could possibly be. It's a good game, don't get me wrong, but shouldn't even have qualified for this award (Flower and Borderlands were much more deserving).

Well, it's a tad obvious, I mean DAO is kick as and all, but it isn't original per se...I mean, how many times have we not seen this time of atmosphere, medieval, on a quest to save humanity against a bunch of ugly looking things and dragons. Don't get me wrong, as a fan of DOA it burned me a bit, but it's understandable. Played inFamous and gotta say it felt fresh when I played it.
