Special Achievement

Best Original Music

A terrific musical score can add a great deal to a game, and while there are many games with outstanding soundtracks licensed from existing artists, there's nothing quite like an original soundtrack that was composed, arranged, and performed from scratch for use in a specific game. Not only do the very best original soundtracks feature musical compositions that are strong enough to be enjoyable on their own, but they are also thematically appropriate to the games in which they appear and truly add something to the experience of playing.

why was modern warfare 2 not nominated in original music? it was amazing...

opinions for this year just sound very mixed but i think that just shows how much music has excelled for all games as opposed to just action and rpg games. i enjoyed the music in modern warfare 2 because harry gregson-williams just knows how to make things sounds as epical as what is going on. as far as afro samurai which i played earlier this year the music really helps get you going when in combat. to me all patapon is, is a adorable sounding noise maker.

The fact that I don't see BlazBlue anywhere on here just pisses me off. Way to screw up again and take a great game for granted Gamespot. I don't know why I even come back here anymore......

But you can't say Afro Samurai had better music then Patapon who won last year

To me all the music in the nominees are just plain and boring! Sure Assassins Creed had some good atmospheric tracks in it, but nothing memorable...

It's a shame really King's Bounty: Armored Princess wasn't even nominated. I just bought it earlier today on Steam and have been playing it since. I was most surprised to find how grandeur the music feelt! The previous King's Bounty instalment I recall had some good tracks in it, but something like this I haven't heard since my days with Heroes of Might and Magic III. Ahhh, those were the good old days... *Looks far into the mist*

And to think gamespot haven't even got their thumbs out of their asses and reviewed the game yet. Enought said...

Don't be that harsh on GS, how many of you guys have even played Afro Samurai? I personally think Assassin's Creed II had excellent music but I'm not about to say GS is wrong for not choosing it since I haven't heard Afro's music.

The fact that BlazBlue and SF4 aren't nominated at all sucks. I love listening to both when I drive. Dx

What! Afro Samurai! Definitely should have been Assassin's Creed II, the music was way better. Bad choice GameSpot, guess again.

Weak choice, GS. I'm with Link1990... ACII more than deserved this one. Especially when you take into consideration the challenge that ACII's composer was faced with... creating music that fit 14th century Italy, during the Renaissance with a game about assassins.

For Afro Samurai, don't you just put in a lot of hip hop and copy the show here and there? Not very original.

Assassin's Creed II totally deserved this one.

ODST wasn't nominated? That's odd. It's on the top of the list.

Greg Edmonson's score for Uncharted 2 was phenomenal. I can't believe it wasn't nominated, especially looking at what was. Too bad there's no write-in option for Readers' Choice.
