Platform Awards

2009 has seen multiple game releases on multiple platforms, so there has been no shortage of great games for everyone to enjoy regardless of which platform they own. GameSpot's platform awards honor those games that stand out on the platform regardless of their exclusivity to that platform. Provided it's identical across platforms, a great game is a great game. Still, the few console-exclusives we had this year made for some interesting debates when met with competition from excellent multiplatform games.

    Dragon Age at least got some recognition demon soul paid someone off and won best rpg.

    A better way to do these awards, and save the Xbox much potential future embarrassment is to nominate only platform exclusives as best platform game and then introduce a new category for best "multiplatform game". That way, best Xbox game won't be chock full of multiplaftorm games again, and Xbox fanboyz wouldn't have to cry in the corner all the time. It would also make the Game of the Year choice more suspenseful, since it could theoretically be either the best PS3/Xbox/Wii/PC/Multiplaftorm game, instead of this year when its pretty easy to figure out that Demon Souls was the winner of GOTY based on the best platform winners.

    You Go PS3 gotta pick ya up now. $1 dollar a day for 1 year. ... Gonna need something to keep me busy as I take care of my new kid coming soon. With Multi-plats looking just as good and only getting better, and exclusives blowing $#!+ away, looks like I will have much to enjoy soon enough. (Also have the Wii, and getting X360 for the ... borrowed games from friends so its free. but will not be able to use live... was not anyway as I am not gonna pay for online)

    The funniest part was how none of the xbox best game nominees (except a racing game which doesn't really count) were xbox exclusives while almost all of the ps3 best game nominees were exclusive to the xbox. Hell the xbox best game wasn't even nominated as best game for the PS3...ouch.

    I wonder how Demon Souls stacks up without the online considerations? That's all the video stated as reasons it's "set apart". And "Rock Band" isn't for everyone - for example I only know two people who play those games (and I have no interest whatsoever...).

    They should have putted "Muramasa" instead "Beatles: Rock Band" and "The Conduit" instead "HOTD OverKill"...

    I have to admit that the Wii had very few kickass games this year, compared with PS3 and X360, but next year it will be very diferent!

    I find it funny that the best Xbox game of the year wasnt even and exclusive. Shows you how hard they are really working doesnt it?

    This year was a great year for Sony. I mean lots of great exclusives this year. Especially Uncharted 2.

    lol, of course gta chinatown wars pulled a double whammy. bringing gta back to 90s style for portables was a pretty good idea. i think the other ones on portable kindve sucked.
