Game of the Year

The Game of the Year is the final award, the final category, and the final reckoning for the absolute best of the best of 2009. Like in previous years, this category has an expanded list of finalists. GameSpot has nominated not five, but 10 of the best games on all platforms for the year's top 10 list, and considering the year's abundance of amazing games, simply making the cut as a finalist should absolutely be considered an honor in itself. Here are the top 10 games of the year. But remember...there can be only one.

Why so many MW2 haters. I think it is MUCH better that the first. Maybe even GOY!

Also Uncharted 2 was definately the best game. When I decide if a game is good or not, I judge it by how fun it is not by how original it is. I could make a game where all you did was get kicked in the nuts, it would be original but it wouldn't be fun.

Demon Souls was a good game the only thing bad about it was the lame multiplayer restrictions and how i couldnt just add a friend from my list to play W/me and the fact that your just doing random dungeon like quests i loved the game play and graphics were sick but c'mon i wanted a story along W/gameplay for my vote!!So i guess im saying i liked the idea of the game and how it works but a few more tweeks and it could have been epic...GOTY...im not sure of that, what about MW2,AC2,U2,these games were great too.I own all of the games in the list too win,and have played through them all.MW2 in my opinion or U2 should have won..BUT im not taking it from DS..a good game and it is what it is. PSN-Stickupkidns13 add me im always online.

If they were thinking about making Demon's Souls 2 its a day one buy for me

@schitzonix Yes I am saying that it's the only thing that makes sense. All these other publishers used the money to create good games but DS's publisher used 90% of their budget to bribe.

I was rather surprised that Demon's Souls won. After reading a comment though, I had to agree with the poster that Gamespot has analyzed these far more than we have. Still, I thought Uncharted 2 would have won having a 9.5 over Demon's Souls 9.0. Perhaps I'm looking at this too much by the numbers. Both are exceptional games regardless.

@bulletwaster Are you really a gamer?

"Well for a game that's so low profile their publisher must have deep pockets."

^ That doesn't make sense. So you're claiming that the smaller studio "outbid" all these other monster publishers? LOL.

This is a joke right? Demon's Souls is the worst game I have ever played by far, I could only play it for half an hour before I sold it. I was already sick of it ten minutes in. Well for a game that's so low profile their publisher must have deep pockets.

Wow. This game won best of ps3 and game of the year? I am very amazed how Gamespot gives awards to these kinds of games and not something that should have won like Assassins Creed 2, Uncharted 2, Killzone 2, and or at least Batman Arkham Asylum (in my opinion). I just have never played Demon Souls and i dont plan on it any time soon and i have played everything else and im just surprised on Gamespot's decision. Mabye it's just because i have never heard of the game or just Gamespot. I honestly thought Uncharted 2 should have won.

I totally agree with the demon soul being the game of the year because you got to look at innovation and the difficulty that bring back the memories of the NES.

My friends and I who played this game... We salute you Gamespot!! A well-deserved award for such a low-profile game... =D Anyone who never heard of this game before, look it up. As for those who said that other games should win (though I'll be happy as well if 'Assassin's Creed II' and/or 'Dragon Age: Origins' win as well), you guys should EXTENSIVELY check this game out as well.
