The Best of 2011 Special Achievements
Song of the Year
Editorial Nominees
Song of the Year is one of the few new Special Achievements we're introducing this year, and when you take a look at the nominee list, it's easy to see why. These songs not only enhanced their games in a way that deserves special mention, but they have also found their way into many an editor's music library. Portal 2's aria sung by gun turrets? Off the Record's end credits rap song actually making clever use of the game material and not making us want to flee in horror? We were as surprised as you. Child of Eden's "Breeze (Champagne Breeze Remix)," Bastion's "Build That Wall (Zia's Theme)," and To The Moon's "For River" complete our list of honored nominees.
There were also some great musical moments that we talked about during our deliberations that didn't make the cut, like the Sublime sing-along in Saints Row: The Third and the sublime "Exile Vilify" from The National that played on a radio in Portal 2. We may still be humming "Dovahkiin! Dovahkiin!" even though it didn't make the cut, but the songs that did will stay with us for much longer.
