About the Awards
GameSpot's Best of 2010 awards cover special achievements in the field of advancements for games, dubious honors for less-than-admirable qualities, and full awards for individual genres and every major platform. Nominations and awards are the result of rigorous debate among GameSpot's editors, who select up to five finalists and one winner for almost every category (the Game of the Year category includes up to 10 finalists). To qualify for an editorial award, games must have been reviewed by GameSpot between January 1, 2010, and November 30, 2010.
Award categories are intended to call out those games that truly deserve the attention--therefore, while each award is meaningful, it's considered an honor simply to be nominated.
Best Competitive Multiplayer
Single-player games can provide a good challenge, but the deadliest prey of all is other people. 2010 offered plenty of excellent games for you to show off your prowess with a controller or your speed with a computer mouse.

Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty offers an enormous amount of great stuff for head-to-head challenges, including three asymmetrical factions; tons of different units and strategies; and a powerful, built-in network to encourage competition online.
Readers' Choice Voting
StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty is the sequel to Blizzard Entertainment's 1998 hit StarCraft, which has been hailed by players and critics worldwide as one of the top real-time strategy games of all time. Sporting a vibrant 3D-graphics engine, StarCraft II will once again center on the clash between the protoss, terrans, and zerg, with each side deploying legions of veteran, upgraded, and new unit types. Unparalleled online play for StarCraft II will be available through a new version of Battle.net, Blizzard Entertainment's world-renowned gaming service. Battle.net has been redesigned from the ground up to be the premier online gaming destination for Blizzard gamers, with several enhancements and new features, such as voice communication, cloud file storage, leagues and ladders, achievements, stat-tracking, and more.

No doubt SC2 is a Great game. But is anyone really surprised? If ME2,BFBC2 or any other game would be made by Blizzard that would be the winner. It's sad Gamespot and Kevin are so afraid to give Blizzard bad review. Though in SC2 that's fer. Who do you think will get all rewards when diablo 3 is out, titan...etc ME2 had no chanche, like other games when Blizzard's game is out. Sad but reality. Who knows perhaps some time in future Gamespot and the whole judging panel will have the guts to critisize and give a bad review even to a Blizzard Game
have any of you guys who say starcraft is the best played Battlefield Bad Company, Black Ops or Halo ????? Play all of these games in multiplayer and u ll blow your mind!!!!!!!
HELL YEAH! I spent 300 hours playing Starcraft II this year and I've never even played the first one. I loved this game and knew it would win ;)
Did all of the FPS have even play a RTS You have to do alot of stuff at the same time that you can even suet ! So yeah any RTS can win a Competitive Multiplayer for the FPS you need to look fast and aim good then press click. BUT YEAH STARCRAFT FOR THE WIN !!!!!!!!!
is anyone really surprised? In a league of one category the non big category will win given how divided the votes are for the FPS games...granted FPS games probably had more votes overall than StarCraft 2
