About the Awards

GameSpot's Best of 2010 awards cover special achievements in the field of advancements for games, dubious honors for less-than-admirable qualities, and full awards for individual genres and every major platform. Nominations and awards are the result of rigorous debate among GameSpot's editors, who select up to five finalists and one winner for almost every category (the Game of the Year category includes up to 10 finalists). To qualify for an editorial award, games must have been reviewed by GameSpot between January 1, 2010, and November 30, 2010.

Award categories are intended to call out those games that truly deserve the attention--therefore, while each award is meaningful, it's considered an honor simply to be nominated.

Special Achievement

Best Sound Design

The impact amazing sound design has on an individual game experience can't be overstated. Evocative audio transports you to another time and place, making you feel like you're a part of the world you're playing in. This year's games created soundscapes so immersive that they made it easy to get lost in the games.

yea. the realism of these fps games is nuts. 44inch tv and surround sound an it might as well be me throwing grenades and laying down covering fire

This game looks good, but it lost me when I heard that there is no local co-op. I enjoy jamming with my sons that?s why Call of Duty is the most played game in my house. The lack of a local co-op kills any chance of me getting this game. Ah well to bad like I said BC2 looks good, just missing the most important element of any 1st person shooter.

I loved the sound but i also loved the fact you cant stay in one place all the time as someone is likely to bomb the house you was in or the rocks you are behind and the fact the battlefield is destroyable makes it seem more realistic than any other FPS COD black ops is not realistic the explosions just leave a black mark and thats it no destroyed wall or object just a mark then theres halo reach well its not meant to be realistic but when your blue or red you kind of stand out in a battle.

Nothing beats BC2 set to War Tapes audio on a nice surround sound system. It's amazing what you can hear.

Hell, I know that but I mean I've tried the others, they were great but still couldn't compare in my opinion, I'm an FPS fan.

@ichiseo Try playing something that's not a first person shooter. Then you'll see why. BC2 the best first person shooter I've ever played. But action adventure games have a better story and usually more interaction with the world in which it is played out in. Just something to consider.

So happy to see this game win. From the moment I first fired a heavy machine gun indoors and neary went deaf, I new this was a game that really took sound design seriously.

The sound in "BF:BC 2" is quite exceptional for a FPS. The heavy gun reports mixed with echoes of the rattle of gunfire off cliif walls add to an intense and immersive experience. Rushing footsteps behind you have you swinging every which way and finger tapping ligtly on the mouse button at all times. Quality shines, even in the smallest of details.
