About the Awards
GameSpot's Best of 2010 awards cover special achievements in the field of advancements for games, dubious honors for less-than-admirable qualities, and full awards for individual genres and every major platform. Nominations and awards are the result of rigorous debate among GameSpot's editors, who select up to five finalists and one winner for almost every category (the Game of the Year category includes up to 10 finalists). To qualify for an editorial award, games must have been reviewed by GameSpot between January 1, 2010, and November 30, 2010.
Award categories are intended to call out those games that truly deserve the attention--therefore, while each award is meaningful, it's considered an honor simply to be nominated.
The Best Shooter category recognizes the best games that let you take control of a character, ship, or talking robot and shoot your enemies into oblivion.

Readers' Choice Voting
The biggest first-person action series of all time and the follow-up to last year's blockbuster Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 returns with Call of Duty: Black Ops. Call of Duty: Black Ops will take you behind enemy lines as a member of an elite special forces unit engaging in covert warfare, classified operations, and explosive conflicts across the globe. With access to exclusive weaponry and equipment, your actions will tip the balance during the most dangerous time period mankind has ever known.
I gotta agree with this one because of this. I despised Halo 3. Wouldn't even try Halo: ODST because of Halo 3. Sure, Halo Wars convinced me that, when a developer isn't full of themselves, there is a good story to Halo but I still didn't think that I would do another Halo FPS. Despite my better judgement, I decided to give Halo:Reach a try. Reach brought me back to where I was when I played Halo 1. I don't know what it says about a game when it can turn me from a hater to a fan but it has to be something good.
haha that's the worst game of all the nominees, I can't believe they chose reach. Atleast black ops didn't win...
Black Ops is a much better game, sorry Gamespot you got this one wrong. I did buy Reach, but I just didn't like it, I don't want to be forced to start with a certain weapon, I want to pick what weapon, grenade, and secondary weapon I start with. I really thought Bungie was going to bring those elements to multiplayer and make it more engaging.
I would of been a bit confused if Reach hadn't won this, sure black ops and BC2 were great shooters but they didn't have those extras like forge and a proper theatre mode, not the theatre mode that took 3 seconds to make for Black Ops. Bungie deserves every bit of this despite anything anyone else says.
hell yeah BUNGIE AND HALO DEFINATELY DESERVE THIS AWARD! SCREW BLACK OPS! THE VGA's ONLY CHOSE BLACK OPS CUZ OF THE LITTLE KIDS AND DUMB PEOPLE THAT VOTED AT THE LAST MINUTE FOR BEST SHOOTER! Congrats BUNGIE, and to HALO FANS for making ANOTHER HALO GAME the best shooting series ever made!
Well done, I congratulate you gamespot for not simply picking a game to appeal to all the CoD fanboys. Like almost every other website did. Grats to Reach, well deserved.
Honorific Mentions: - Exclusive Console Shooter: Halo Reach - Multi Console Shooter: Call of Duty Black Ops - First Person Shooter: Call of Duty Black Ops - Third Person Shooter: Vanquish
I love Gamespot, they are the last website that is true and not paid off and biased. If you want biased Call of Duty wins every year, go watch IGNorance.
i like how bungie still gives us reach players something 2 do with challenges even though there working on something else
Cool, Reach deserves it.I can't get enough of its offline multiplayer with my friends(No wifi here).
I would give it to vanquish for originaloty but halo reach was my second choice. PS loved the music during the battlefield clip.
I was going to disagree and say Bad Company 2 should have won. But when they summarised the reasons why they chose Reach I found myself agreeing with them.
i have always been a Halo fan and COD fan and BC2 was great but not as good as Reach or BO. I think they made an excellent choice in picking Reach because Treyarch just isn't as good as Infinity Ward so I think Reach won by a long shot
It's kinda sad to see Bad Company 2 not getting any awards, it's really a great game, but Halo Reach it's algo great, totally deserved, at least BO didn't won.
