Game of the Year

Game of the Year

While GameSpot's editors traditionally nominate 10 games for finalists in this category, GameSpot's Game of the Year award is given to one and only one game that stood out above all the rest as being the most enjoyable, most impressive, most memorable, and overall best experience of the year.

Man... I wish I could not have an argument to reply to your entire post, because I really hate Mario (even though I´m a Nintendo and Zelda fanboy). But I think it is my duty to reply when something is wrong.

If Gamespot are condescending, why did Super Mario Galaxy win the 2007 Game of the Year award, even if it had the same 9.5 of Halo 3 but it was for Wii? In simple words for the people that do not get my argument, if Halo 3 did the same effort on the 360 that Super Mario Galaxy did on the Wii: why did the second one win the award if the first was better because it was on 360?

    Sorry dude.

The Readers` Choice Voting says all. I see the editors loved RDR, but it`s not as good as SC2 or ME2. Anyway, we wait for The Best of 2011 (I can predict it will be a really tough battle!)

are you kidding! red dead??? sigh** that game got so repetitive. i was so disappointed. i felt like after 10 hours og gameplay i had seen and done everything worth doing in the game. Every thing i did beyond that felt like a chore or far too familiar. the only thing to keep me shooting wave after wave of bandits was to find out what happened next in the story. and imop 10 hours of quality isn't equal to GOTY. in the end poker was most fun aspect of the entire game for me.

@drkipper What you're saying doesn't make sense. SMG2 getting a 10 doesn't mean its better or worse than red dead. Its an opinion that one is better. The fact the their genres are very different adds to that fact. The majority of gamespots editors just liked rd better than smg2 or any other game. On other critic sites red dead wast't really a contender.

Ooooookay... SMG2 fanboys... "10" does not mean "perfect." If you knew about the rating system, you would know that 10 means "could not have been improved upon in any meaningful way."

Which is why the Wii is criticized in a different manner than the PS3 or Xbox 360. When Gamespot gives SMG2 a 10, they are being COMPLETELY CONDESCENDING! The Wii has FUNDAMENTALLY DIFFERENT hardware than it's more powerful (but less popular) competitors. It's true that SMG2 could be the best thing for the Wii since a charge station... but Red Dead could still be better, simply because the other systems have the CAPACITY to be better. Sorry, but that's the way the mean world works. Now, if SMG2 had been released for PS3 and Xbox 360 as well... well, we'd have a monster of a game on our hands, wouldn't we?

It would be nice to see a popularity contest where StarCraft was included and DIDN'T rally it's way to victory.

Really?! Star Craft 2 won the Readers Choice award? Over Red Dead Redemption, Mass Effect 2, Heavy Rain, Halo Reach and Bad Company 2? What the hell is wrong with you people?

    Dear all fanboys,
Stop voting for witch one had the most addictive multiplayer, or witch one had the most replayability, choose the one that is truly a marvel in memorable moments and key sets of gameplay. That goes to RED DEAD REDEMPTION!!!!!!!
