About the Awards

GameSpot's Best of 2010 awards cover special achievements in the field of advancements for games, dubious honors for less-than-admirable qualities, and full awards for individual genres and every major platform. Nominations and awards are the result of rigorous debate among GameSpot's editors, who select up to five finalists and one winner for almost every category (the Game of the Year category includes up to 10 finalists). To qualify for an editorial award, games must have been reviewed by GameSpot between January 1, 2010, and November 30, 2010.

Award categories are intended to call out those games that truly deserve the attention--therefore, while each award is meaningful, it's considered an honor simply to be nominated.

Dubious Honors

Most Disappointing Game

It's easy to get excited about an upcoming game while waiting for its release, but sometimes, all that excitement ends up leading to a big bucket of depressing mediocrity. And when that happens, those games end up on our list of the most disappointing games of 2010.

    Come On. APB was fun for sure. It just was a bit repetitive.
    I wish they somehow manage to get it back or at least release it for an offline gameplay with some kind of story.
    It felt a lot like Saints Row series.

    Hey where's Lost Planet 2? I was pumped for that game,and it let me down with all those terrible knock-back attacks.

    @pumpkinhead3
    I agree there. New Vagas was no where near as good as Fallout 3. I put 121 hours into Fallout 3 fromt he first time I put it in my system untill I took it out and finaly played another game. New Vegas only got about 15 hours of attention untill I quit. C&C4 is also way up there on this list.

    Hmm. Didn't play either of these, but New Vegas was quite a let down after Fallout 3. It just wasn't as fun. Too many fetch quests, speech driven subplots, an awkward map layout (Freeside as a whole/ the three gates WITHIN the strip itself), and all those bugs. Maybe my expectations were too high, but I don't think so.

    I just have to get this out there; ok, final fantasy was a disapointment for the first 5-10 hours that had slow gameplay and character developement. but then, the character developement opened up soooo much and the gameplay picked up a little bit. The story also got much better, and i thought it had one of the better stories this year, not including red dead redemption. I think that people didn't give it enough chance and just left after a few hours.

    New Vegas should have won this category hands down. And why isn't Fable 3 on this list?

    Though I'm a big fan of FF series, but I must say: yes, FFXIII should be nominated for "Most Disappointing Game", I played FFXIII for only more than 1 hour, and it's so boring I couldn't continue anymore.
