With so many talented game development studios out there, so much excellent technology, and the high standards set by the great games of yesteryear, it's hard for game players not to have high expectations. While some games meet our expectations and some exceed them, some fall short. And sadly, some fall very short. These are the 2009 games that let us down more than any others.

Bionic Commando

The 20-year wait is over as the first true sequel to the classic 1988 Nintendo Entertainment System original, Bionic Commando, sees the return of the bionically-enhanced Nathan "Rad" Spencer. Time has not been kind to Spencer. Ten years after his heroic defeat of the Imperials, he is betrayed by the government, and sentenced to death for crimes he didn't commit. But then, terrorists detonate a massive experimental weapon in Ascension City, unleashing an intense earthquake that turns the city into rubble, wipes out the population, and results in the city's air defense grid in the control of a massive terrorist force. There is only one option left, a behind-the-lines assault by a Bionic Commando.

For me the most disappointing game would have to be riddick and bionic commando. Especially the riddick dark athena was so disappointing because the more I saw about that campaign the more I was hooked but it was nothing like escape from butcher bay. It still had the awesome escape from butcher bay campaign though.
F.E.A.R was great but look at F.E.A.R 2 there is almost no improvement (maybe just in graphics).There is no nice scary moments like F.E.A.R and no good action. F.E.A.R was a real horror FPS but part 2 has nothing.
I still dont understand why bionic commando was so bad? I was able to play the game just fine and have fun with it, with all those ideas. Characters were pretty good and music was amazing!!
In comparison to the huge potential, I'm would have gone for Scribblenauts. It's still a great game, but the controls could so easily be fixed.
I would say Final Fantasy IV: The After Years. I'm a bit sick of FF spin-off/alternate story games that tank. I'm a bit sick of spin-off FF games in general. >:C
Hmm, I actually enjoyed FEAR 2. I thought that it thoroughly refined it's core mechanics and delivered much better pacing than the first.
I just played KOF XII, and it was cool but not enough to compete street fighters IV and Blaz blue, so thats dissapointing for me cuz KOF is one my favorite fighting games!!! :(
For me it was MW2 PC version. Was so damn hyped for the multiplayer then we got hit with the bombshell (in case you have been living under a rock, no dedicated servers; a staple since the dawn of competitive multiplay on the PC).
I loved Fear 2. One of the most fun FPS I played all year. Graphics were great on the PC and the environments were fantastic. Oh well.
kansaspwnage Whit all the respect Resident Evil 5 it´s a better action game than Resident Evil 4 but these games really insulted Resident Evil Zero, 1, 2, 3 and Code Veronica beacause 4 and 5 forget the scare and are more focus to spread bullets they don´t deserve to call it ¨Resident Evil¨
In Resident Evil 5, I find it really hard to even get remotely scared when your 345 lbs of pure muscle, a judo master, and carrying an automatic shotgun. Even if you where not it still would not have been scary. Resident Evil 5 Insulted Resident Evil 4 FEAR 2 Insulted FEAR
FEAR 2. I think Resident Evil 5 should be up here as a contender. Horror means its scary!
One of the few thing that I agree with gamespot is on this one:D FEAR 2 was such an insult to the original game that ruined the name of monolith forever in my view.
I don't agree with this...i thoroughly enjoyed FEAR 2..sure, it wasn't as horrifying and adrenaline fueled as the first...but it was still an amazing game..
If this was for sales than every single PS3 exclusive except maybe Uncharted 2 would be on here than followed by multi-platform games for the PS3.
FEAR 2 is a big dissapoiting game compared to the excellent FEAR, but my vote went to FF IV after years since I loved FF IV and I thought this would also be at least half good. At least these game weren't bad as last years Merceneries 2 :)
I saw the first fifteen minutes on demand of fear 2 and it was excellent with graphics and all but fear 2 really guys This the worst i have seen yet it should really go to to kof xii. I have seen some game play of kof xii and i just didn't like it it wasn't exciting as i thought it would be
@jorge-fg The reason why didn't put Rogue Warrior in this category was because noone was expecting the game to be good anyway. It's hard to call a bad game that everyone thought was going to be bad a disappointment. I thought FEAR 2 wasn't all that bad. I think Bionic Commando was probably the biggest disappointment. I still don't get how they managed to f**k that one up.
WTF? WTF? FEAR2? RIDDICK? SCRIBBLENAUTS? WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE? WHY DIDNT YOU CHOOSE TKOFXII?
OMG!!!! they didnt even put rogue warrior in the nominees, this the awards are bad chosed, in 2008 was only metal gear solid 4 now they wanted to choose more games instead of the ones they thinked were better
FEAR2, really? It's not like the first game was "AMAZING!" nor was the 2nd one hyped up very much. I'm not sure people how people could be disappointed. It was almost as good as the first game.
Bionic Commander should have won this. The controls are terrible and the physics in the game was just pathetic, on top of the pathetic advertising.
KOF definitely deserves the worst. They cut all the good characters....even Mai. Mai is an SNK icon and a main character!!! And they made Athena fat. Epic fail.
Yeah, I agree with this decision. F.E.A.R. is one of the scariest games I ever played. In this sequel, It's not as scary as the original. It's not a bad game by any means, but it doesn't have that same scary tension that the original had.
Godfather 2....i mean the movie was awesome and the first game was good. how the hell did they mess up the sequel.
Fear 2 was ok. Bionic commando was EPIC apart from the last levels, i dont understand why no one liked it!! Anyway i vote for operation flashpoint 2, i thought it will be better than arma 2 but after a while i realized that the "average" first level of the game, was the entire game. It was a short borring and cheap product without much options!!
