Best Role-Playing Game
Few genres have benefited more from faster processors and improved graphics hardware than role-playing games. Fantasy worlds now rival the scale of small cities and feature the artistry to bring these environments to life like never before. Although RPGs have featured complex, intertwined storylines for some time, hardware improvements have enriched the storytelling. Narrative (and even interactive) cutscenes now feature detailed character emotion and body language to make the experience all the more lifelike. The role-playing game of the year takes this concept to the next level by not telling a story; instead, the game makes you feel as if you are writing the story as you go.

to amny xbox fans around.. no one likes japanese rpgs anymore.:| they should be separated fallout 3 shouldn't be with persona 4 and the others also fable. what kind of list is this.
I went with Persona 4 myself. I'll have to agree with Zakedestiny and others here; while Fallout 3 is an awesome game - I played around 60 hours of it and beat it - Persona 4 had an incredible story and deep characters. It's been awhile since I've played a RPG that hit me as much as P4. While Fallout 3 does deserve every inch of hype and praise it got, it's really a shame that P4 didn't get the same recognition. Hopefully more people will play it and see what a great game it is.
@calvinsora- I too have played both, but each is good in its own way. I'd say that Fallout does get a slight edge, though, just because of how absolutely massive it is.
The fact that TWEWY is at the bottom shows how few have actually played it. I've played and finished Fallout 3 and TWEWY, and even though Fallout 3 is a nice game, TWEWY is the dominant one. It's awesome.
Fallout 3 was a good choice, even though I voted a little too late before this realization, but IMO, Persona 4 is the best RPG. Tales of Vesperia really should have been nominated, at least. (My original vote was Fallout though)
@Hector530- Zelda isn't an RPG. If that's an RPG, then what keeps, say, Grand Theft Auto from also being classified as an RPG? Mass Effect is most definitely an RPG because the focus of the game is on strategically customizing your squad for battle as they level up. In Zelda, you're solving logic puzzles and acquiring a few (usually required) upgrades. That's not an RPG; that's an action-adventure game.
I'm really disaponted that not enough peoples had played TWEWY it's by far the best RPG game of the previous year :D. Persona 4 is also awesome and showed that PS2 is still alive :D Crisis Core is a new story to world famous story about Shinra, Spehiroth and Cloud, but Fable II and Fallout 3 attracted alot people who never played RPG's and just because they aren't JRPG which I preffer :(
I have to disagree with no clue on this one Fallout 3 > Oblivion for me atleast. Oh and I hate jrpgs so it was ony between fallout 3 and fable for me. I guess I'm a little bias
Well no complainments here since I did like Fallout 3 a lot and would play it many times after that just to see Megaton exploding =D, however I did like Crysis Core (very graphics movies, of course it's Final Fantasy) and TWEWY has an interesting story and gameplay.
i like JRPG nerds who say action RPGs are not really RPGs so every ZELDA game isnt an RPG right? mass effect too(RPG of the year winner also)! so if it isnt a turn based game its not a RPG yeah sure. well if you think that you'll be missing some of the best RPGs ever made.
Fallout 3 is the rightful owner of this title for 08, the choices, the world, the quests, even if the main quest story end is dissapointing (from what I've heard, still doing side quests :P) it's an incredible RPG that really lets you put yourself in the world and act how you want.
Fallout 3 rightfully deserves this, but fable 2 shouldnt be up there, and where is Vesperia?
"FALLOUT3 and FABLEII" both are the best rpgs I have ever played, the difference is that Fallout3 is something serious and FableII is a fabulous fun.
Fallout 3 even though it definitely took a couple of shooter elements wouldn't qualify as a shooter at all. It is most certainly a RPG and 1 of the best I have played in the current gen systems. I kind of wish I would have spent the extra money for a PS3 that was backward compatible to play games like P4 though.
What in the hell people ? O f course fallout 3 is a Rpg, Bethesda is only famous because they do Rpg's (tes series anybody ?) Hell even the game engine was made for rpg's... they are currently making one fps and for that they will use unreal 3 engine.... so no doubts here please I get really pissed when anybody says this is 1 fps... for starters i could get by most off the game without killing anyone...
Nah... Twewy deserves it... Fallout 3 is more to the shooter side than RPG. It doesn't have much Level-up, which is the mosqt important thing in an RPG (imo). Of course. it has it's traces... But still it's more of a shooter.
Fallout 3 is an RPG... an RPG isn't just what Japan churns out IE turn based, hence why many critics like to use the term western RPG.
