Probably the best racing game for the 64!

User Rating: 9.5 | Beetle Adventure Racing N64
Beetle Adventure Racing was the first game I got for my 64. In fact, it was my only game for a year or two, and that I didn't get bored of it says something right there.

Game Play:
It's a racing game of course, hence the title. Only two tracks are available from the start, but the tracks on this game are about ten minutes long, have all sorts of secret routes, and are just plain fun. New tracks are unlocked in championship mode, but it isn't very easy even on easy mode. From the start the game is a fun challenge, especially since the AI isn't stupid. They don't take shortcuts, but they're still smart. In a way. The same cars always take the same positions unless you interfere. Each championship has a new track added on to the end which is unlocked by finishing. As an added bonus, you can also unlock more cars. Still New Beetles, but they have cool new paint jobs that seem to speed them up. Sadly, only two players can race at once. When there are more than two people taking turns playing this is a problem since the races take so long. Luckily there is also a four player mode called "Beetle Battle" where up to four players compete to get every color of lady bug that appear randomly around the map. Power-ups also play a major role including projectiles, bombs, shields, and the infamous "?" item that mess up the opponents' screens in ways that include fogging, morphing and turning upside down.

Graphics:
The graphics are some of the best in the genre and by far beat DS standards. The draw distance is far superior to other games from the era. They pretty much are the same as the box art. Graphics like that were rarely seen on other N64 games.

Sound:
Great song selection, annoying tire squeals, and fun echoes in tunnels.

Overall:
One of the best games for the 64. One of the best games.
