This game is very basic but there's certainly good fun to be had.

This indie game is quite straight to the point. It never really goes over your head in terms of menus or story-telling. The main menu is simple, no actual information just three letters (a,b and c) referring to each game file. You choose one and start playing. It's actually weird at first since there's not even information on what the actual progress is in each letter. If go ahead and click one of them info will be given.

The first paragraph shows how indie this is, this is pretty indie. As far as I can recall this game was entirely done by a couple and other two guys. The couple handled all programming and art, while there was another guy who did sound and sound engineering. There was also another one that was listed as the person who ported this for MAC. So, very small group of people, it's really the type of game that holds the sign "indie title" for everyone to see it.

I would describe it straight to the point indeed. Nothing essential to the wellness of the campaign is missing. The archaic set of options never really get in the way of the solid platforming. In the main menu right after choosing which game file you want you're sent to a small solar system. Three planets rotating around a sun that kind of feels too small to have that kind of gravity power, but that doesn't matter.

Each planet has two hemispheres, each hemisphere has four levels based on that specific theme. So you have 6 world and 24 levels. The levels are easy to go through, nothing shows destructive prowess to stand in the way of the player, though it still requires moderate platforming to go through, especially in the last world.

The variety of enemies is very poor. You'll basically find the same enemies over and over. Some require special methods to be beaten, while others you just have to shoot and avoid the projectiles. In reality, what drives the difficulty upward a little is the fact you have to recharge bullets after your clip is shot. To reload you need to click on the Beep machine and in the heat of battle that sometimes can cause unwanted results.

At first I thought it was unnecessary, the bullets are unlimited, but you still need to recharge a clip. After a while it's clear that treating it like a shoot 'em up would require more enemies on screen, a little more variety and so on. The other gameplay mechanic you're allowed to use is a magnet laser thing that holds objects and enemies. Moving objects around to help you traverse the levels is essential.

One thing actually bugged me. It might be a small spoiler but here it goes. Go to the next paragraph if you're afraid of spoilers, even minor. In the last world, the lava world, a new gameplay mechanic is presented, instead of acting as a magnet the laser acts as a grappling hook on certain "complex structures". Controlling the Beep in this situation is pretty goo and responsive, but only one world make use of this. If implemented since the second or third world it would be a success and would allow for more complex puzzles.

I know, the puzzles are basic, but Super Mario puzzles are also basic and no really complains about that. Each level has a number of 25 small golden ores and three big ores. If you collect all 25 you're awarded a fourth big ore. these ores allow you to unlock new worlds. Most of the time getting these ores won't be a problem. The fact that even if you die getting one you'll respawn with that ore obtained. It sure helped out quite a lot, maybe if the game forced you to not die until the end with everything or the next checkpoint the game suddenly would undergo a quite steep leap of difficulty.

The graphics are simple yet nicely done. Everything has a cartoonish feel while explaining what Beep is able to do and what you might find next in the lightest way possible. This game might be great for children, but any grown-up is bound to find good casual fun in this. It's actually sad that it ends as abruptly as it all started, but the ending basically calls for a sequel in the way that it almost announces it. If it ever comes out, I'll be sure to go ahead and finish the fight.
