Same Katamari Game, Huge Difficulty Spike
It's basically the same Katamari game you've played over and over again over the years, with a maddeningly hard difficulty thrown in for not-so-good measure.
The graphics are the same as the PS2, the funky songs are the same, the surrealistic style is the same as well.
Not much has changed except the incredible difficulty level. The King still annoys you right in the middle of the action, he still spits out words and still berates you for every tiny misstep.
The real deal breaker for me with this game was the difficulty level. This is definitely above and beyond the most frustrating Katamari game made. The first couple of levels are okay, but it ramps up so much after those that it's almost impossible unless you have an excellent grasp of the sluggish handling. It doesn't help of course that your jerk of a dad throws his head right in the middle of the screen time and again to offer "advice" that really just gets in your way, and you end up pushing buttons as fast as you can to make him go away.
Few games have gotten me as angry as this rage inducing ball rolling game. One tiny misstep with the wonky controls and you mine as well start the whole level over. Naturally, your dad just tears into you after you fail, and you can't click past this annoying intrusion fast enough. He's a real jerk and his awful commentary just makes you want to rage quit the game.
I have yet to even come halfway close to finishing most of the levels - even with what I consider precision Katamari motion, I'm rarely even half way towards my size goal before the time runs out. It's really nuts.
I was looking forward to a next-gen Katamari game in the same pleasing vein as the PS2 games but instead, I was playing a game that had no improvements over the PS2 except for a crushing difficulty.
