A sequel that just keeps on giving

User Rating: 10 | Bayonetta 2 NS

I was one of those people that missed out first time round in playing Bayonetta 2 since I never owned a Nintendo Wii U and knowing that it would never be released on other platforms, loved the first game for what it was when it comes to gameplay and story that makes no sense it all fits in perfectly and PlatinumGames knows how to deliver a perfect game. Baonetta 2 got ported to the Nintendo Switch along with the first game as well, so if you missed out the first time, you can now pick it up on the Nintendo Switch.

Just like the first game the story takes place a few months after the events of the first game Bayonetta fights more angels and demons and travels to the mountain to find the Gates of Hell so that she can save her friend Jeanne. A simple story so far, later on in the game the story gets more and more insane and just makes it memorable to watch and play through. Most of the voice actors and the characters make a return, including Rodin and Luka including new characters as well.

The Switch version does give you multiple options in playing Bayonetta 2 from handheld, on the big screen or using either the pro controller or the Joy-Con controllers; another option is that you can use the touch pad as the controller as well for her attacks. The gameplay mechanics are simple and straight forward using the both the X and A button for light and strong attacks and the Y button to use your guns at enemies and of course the A button is used for jumping and the shoulder buttons to dodge attacks and activating Witch Time at the last second in slowing down enemies. If you've played the first game you'll know that the controls haven't changed at all, Torture Attacks make a return the more magic gauge you have, the more damage and special attacks you can do on enemies and performing special attacks by button mashing one of the buttons on screen.

Amiibo support is added in the Switch where certain amiibos can be used to unlock a costume like Princess Peach dress if you have her amiibo and other amiibos can give you a number of halo rings and materials to craft items. 2 player support is added for both online and local co-op in defeating certain bosses. This is a good idea to have in the sequel either going head to head in betting a number of halo rings on who can defeat the boss first and not trying to be killed. A new feature that was added in the sequel is Umbran Climax where you'll be thrown into certain challenges in defeating enemies and bosses.

For a game that was released in 2014 in the Wii U it still holds up, especially on the Nintendo Switch looking more polished and well detailed from the character facial expressions to the settings you travel to from the town of Noatun to the Gates of Hell everything just looks well done especially on a Nintendo console. Even the soundtrack is great to listen as well and not to mention that both the English and Japanese voice acting is nicely done as well. Just like the Wii U version if you either bought the digital version or the physical version it will come with the first game as well taking at least 9GB on your Switch. Looking at the graphics and visuals of the first game does look a little identical to both the PS3 and Xbox 360 version on texture and detail of the whole game.

You can finish the game within ten hours or more depending on the difficulty setting, but there is still a challenge on either mode and just keeps on offering. For the price you are paying for the Switch version you are more or less getting two games in one where the first game is a downloaded title and the second game is the physical version you are getting plenty of replay value. If you missed in playing both Bayonetta games in the past highly recommend you in picking up the Switch version for your collection.
