Yeah but he also seems imature and picky, and from the demo I played of this and playing Blazing Angels 1 and 2, this makes them seem like pieces of crap.

Kevin's probably the best reviewer on the site, he never misses a detail. Can't wait to pick this one up!

Dude, you shouldn't try to argue with a review site. It's an opinion-based score, and you're not going to change their opinion. If you like the game, you should probably write a positive review for it. Gamespot thought it deserved an 8, so it got an 8. Apparently, it didn't deserve an 8.5. So don't argue.

this one one was great, but i have to raise the argument in the fact that it should have been an 8.5, because of the graphics, and you also should have taken into account that they improved allot so, it should, not only get, but it deserves an 8.5...

Great Review! this game is a must have imo & it makes a nice change from some of the "same old" games being released, plus you get hours of Gameplay which not many games offer to date!

@moose_knuckler Yeah, actually looking back at my previous statement, I shouldn't have really compared this to Halo Wars because they are very different games. I also agree that Halo Wars is more fluid whereas Battlestations Pacific has the slow ship combat and everything takes time.

moose_knuckler
moose_knuckler

@RavageGT That is an interesting point. But I disagree with Halo Wars being overrated (I would argue underrated) when comparing this game to it since it just doesn't have those parts in the game where it's slow-moving and the controls were a bit more fluid to me.

What people seem to be forgetting is that the Japanese voice actors are predominantly Japanese, so calling their accents "unauthentic" is perhaps a little wrong. Also, I study Japanese at Uni, and the guy who teaches it, sounds freakishly like the Japanese Sub Commander...I mean really...eery stuff

I've been playing this over the weekend and it's a right good laugh.

Hmm, I liked the demo, didn't use much of the strategy stuff though. I think I'll wait until the price has dropped

@Kevin-V. Ok i see your point at around 5:44. I though that was the Japanese commanders voice also, a bit of a misunderstanding there. Thank you for clearing thing up, beside that great review with the cons and pros.

@ciaxhieu - The voice acting for both sides is terrible. The quality of the voice acting has nothing to do with the fact that the Japanese commanders speak with an accent; however, the accent is highly affected and is not authentic. The commander acting for both sides is wooden and amateurish. I am not criticizing the fact that the Japanese commanders speak with an accent, and I am not sure where you got that idea from; I am criticizing the fact that the acting is bad. Around 5:44, you can hear an equally poor voiceover from an American commander.

ciaxhieu
ciaxhieu

um ok first of all kevin were you playing japan or americans campaign when you were recording the commander voice? it looks like the japanese side. Which in term would conclude that of course the commander cant speak clear english, cause they are japanese! so i dont see why you should criticize it in your reviews.

the demo is boring, but that is just because the demo consists of boring campaign missions. the multiplayer seems like it will be much better, just like in the first game.

I think this dude is one of, if not the best video reviewer on gamespot. Nice work man.

I agree with what was said before, the score they gave and the review don't match. Either it is underrated, or the review mainly aims for the good things about the game.

RavageGT
RavageGT

He makes it sound like a 8.5 game, but whatever....if you see the critic average and compare this game to Halo Wars (which was a good game as well), you would start the notice that Halo Wars was overrated or that this game underrated. Just my personal opinion, thumbs up/down if you agree/disagree.

nice rewiew. but terrible voice acting!!!!!

The voice acting is bad. I wonder if the horrible japanese english accent was put in the game on purpose.

It's getting harder and harder to come by good reviews here these days. Luckily I found one.

It takes some getting used to. For instance, ship AA has gotten an upgrade - I used to be able to get through it and take down AI ships and the like without any particularly special tactics in Midway. Now? It's a suicide mission. One minute you're lining up, trying to get a guaranteed hit, the next your crashing into the sea. I would actually say this is a good thing - it increases the tension and makes victory (or successful hits) all the more sweet. The "Hidden Objectives" necessary to get the Gold rating at the end of a mission tend to be obvious (kill everything/don't lose anything), but on the first pass you might not be in a position to make it happen. Torpedo's are faster in this game as well, which makes it easier to gauge their path, and enemy torpedo spam isn't as ridiculous. AI ships will still try dodging your torpedoes, but it isn't the mathematically perfect dance that it was in Midway where a (slow) torpedo wave really only got a big ship occupied dodging them so you could kill its escort. All around, very fun, and this video review is accurate. Oh yeah! Probably something that is a guaranteed win: you get to play with a lot of big ships this time! I hated that the biggest toy you got in Midway was a cruiser (ignoring carriers for a sec). The truth is, the gunships shine in the new US campaign, where planes might not get through AA cover. The Iowa class and battleships rock!

yeah aramus555 i totally agree with you. gamespot reviews are alright but they are highly opinionated, personally i like GT reviews better just because they go into each aspect of the game and try to avoid bias.
