A game worth playing and it's sequal will be amazing
The story ranges from the attack on Pearl Harbour to the Battle of Midway and the online is amazing. The campaign which you play as not as a sinlge person but as several ships and aircraft, which is quite different I must say. You go from controling a little PT boat to a amazing carrier called the Yorktown.
The campaign is quite rushed though as it follows the whole of the Pacific war between America and Japan in a few hours really. The space between each mission is little over 3 months which is rediculous. But following the rushed campaign you have challange mode which has challenges for each unit kind, aircraft, ship and submarine. Completeing all the challenges for all units will reward you with a nice 90 gamerscore, or nothing if you have the PC version.
Following the short campaign you have the online which at first was laggy, lame and unused, nobody played ranked and there were little player matches. Eventually Eidos updated everything, brought out the Iowa pack addon and people played online. The addon added a new ship challenge which involves the Raid on Truk and adds the map: Battle of Sibuyan sea involving the biggest map yet with heavy weight units including land based heavy bombers and the famous Iowa and Yamato as well as the other ships in their classes the New Jersey and the Musashi.
The graphics aren't too great as Eidos didn't really get help from any graphics companies and did them themselves but at least you have little men walking around on your 200ft carriers, even if their animation is slow, their models are jagged and they can walk through closed doors. Despite this the cutscenes have amazing quality and looks not far off like they did real acting for it.
Overall the game is quite good even with it's short story because the great online and if you have a friend you have even more fun.
BTW. Nobody plays ranked matches still, lol
