Wing Commander Arena II

User Rating: 5.5 | Battlestar Galactica X360
This sequel to Wing Commander Arena upgrades the graphics and adds some much needed story context with the Battlestar Galactica tie in, but gameplay remains much the same. Well, not exactly, but if that were the total truth it would be right on. This feels just like Wing Commander on arcade. It's a 2-D scrolling space shooter that does start to feel pretty old quickly. If you're a BG geek like me, there is a great rush when you first see the old school Viper, but that wears off quickly. It's good for one day, but lacks the replay value of some other titles on Xbox arcade.

I will give credit to the developers, they've made each mission tie into an episode of the new BG TV show and the graphics are relatively nice for an arcade title. That said, this genre is just not a very interesting genre to play. I keep thinking back to the original Wing Commander games and the X-Wing vs Tie Fighter games and the fact is a 2-D scroller really sucks compared to a FPS space-ship shooter.
