fun to create, fun to destroy

Battleships Forever is a freeware game, and though you may be thinking that it automatically sucks, that isn't true. It was in the IGF (independant games festival), and features great, creative gameplay. The game was made by Sean Chan, a (according to the game's description) fan of asteroids, and that is pretty obviously what it was based on. The game, like ohers such as Space Invaders Extreme, basically takes the old school 8-bit graphics, but also adds new things to make it look much better. Not only that, but the gameplay isn't shabby either :) Basically, the game includes various modes, such as a kill the giant boss ship mode, defend a ship mode, raid ships mode, etc. Also, it has a decent campaign, but that really isn't where the game shines. It shines in the Ship Maker mode. You make your own ship, then blast your enemies to death. You can do shields, stat adjustments, and a whole lotta guns. You can also upload them online, though that isn't really the greatest part of it. The greatest part is to make a whole roster of ships and watch them kill eachother in loud, flashing glory. That is why this game owns. This is truly a testament to not needing a massive design team to make a fun, addictive mini-game.
