Seriously? Did you expect higher than a 3.0?
First Thing: You should know that a game based off a movie, based off a game, has already got 1 strike against it from the starting gate. Reason why? Remember Street fighter the movie the game? Yeah... my anger, Hatred and, cynical attitude are well justified.
Second thing: The actual game play. If you want to call it that. It is safe to say that this movie has no redeeming value, much less replay value! And that's putting it mildly! This total rip off of transformers, manages to fall short of that low expectation. It makes me wonder how game companies stay afloat releasing, this sort of waste. O.K I want to know who at activision thought it would be a GREAT idea to turn Battleship into a first person shooter? They couldn't even bother lip syncing the voice acting to the characters mouths! The just covered everyone's face up with masks! Can you say lazy? Were they THAT rushed in production to keep up with the release of the movie? Rushed production, movie cash ins can seriously damage credibility and, do devastating damage to an industry. Don't believe me? Just ask Atari after, releasing The E.T Game!
Third thing: It doesn't even address the story or bothers to explain why the aliens are attacking! They just said: to hell with that! go watch the movie if, you want a story! Story is kind of important to good games. Since this isn't one of them, I guess that's just fine, huh?
Fourth thing: You just go around and kill aliens and pick up power ups from the bodies... Yeah. That does sound stupid. What's more stupid is the fact that they are pointless! Most of the aliens will just charge at you. All all you got to do is aim and, shoot them down! It's like a broken version of Serious Sam!
Fifth thing: Every single mission is almost the same, due to the lack of attention to detail. Destroy alien array for your fleet off shore.... That's it!
Sixth thing: The battleship segment is nothing more than a mini game that is mind numbingly easy to win. You only fight one ship at a time and, all you got to do is hit the trigger buttons or the right bumper. A 4 year old could do it! No, Seriously! I saw my 4 year old cousin play that segment a he breezed through it! The game is only 4 HOURS LONG and has a total of 5 weapons. But honestly, you can finish the game using just one! The movie is almost as long as the game! If you had the constitution, you could watch the movie twice in the time it takes to finish the game once... But then again prolonged exposure to this game might be bad for your sanity!
Last thing: The one thing that brought my urine to a boil... They had the NERVE to charge FULL RETAIL PRICE for this bad movie tie in... Wow! Asking for full price for this waste of time, on the same day Max Payne 3 and Diablo 3 is released? That is just insane, Insulting or at best, laughable! Talk about having a chip on your shoulder! I feel sorry for the poor kids that might have got this game as a gift because, parents or grandparents didn't know any better...
So Once again; we are proven why most games based on movies, based on games SUCK. However, as long as the industry can see another cash in, I fear that this will not be the last time we see such crap. When is the gaming industry going to learn?
