There is an epic war going on right now...

User Rating: 10 | Battleground Europe: World War II Online PC
Right now, on the Battleground Europe server, I can guarantee you that there is a massive battle with hundreds of players fighting like hell to take over or defend an objective.

Rifles are firing, planes are straffing, bombing and dodging anti-aircraft guns, anti-tank crews are trying to stop the advance of enemy tanks, and what once was a nice, albeit basically modelled town, is being reduced to rubble.

This is World War 2 Online, or Battleground Europe, and every person with a computer and internet connection owes it to God, their humanity and all other good things to give it a try.

Two ways to think about this game: One, compared to single player first person shooters. Ha ha. There is no comparison between shooting some lame programmed computer program manifested as a German infantryman in Call of Duty versus a real human player who is crafty, cunning, and cunningly crafty at killing you.

Second, compared to other multi-player first person shooters. Ha ha again. There is no other game like this one. There is no comparison to being limited to a "map", which is tiny, infested with kids hypped up on caffeine and scrambling around to "win" a so called "battle" with no real strategic context that lasts a matter of minutes VERSUS an all out war over something that will be a piece of a grand puzzle that each side will remember for years to come and give bragging rights to the winner.

This little game that I think Gamespot ought to review again is a precious gem that ALL self-respecting PC gamers ought to try...and fall in love with.
