Savetehaloz reviews Battlefield Vietnam, one of the only few decent Vietnam games out there, even in 2009.

User Rating: 7.5 | Battlefield Vietnam PC
I've owned Battlefield Vietnam for years now, but never got around to really playing it. Once I began playing it I was left speechless. Not the speechless as in "OMG what a great game" but speechless as in "Barely anything has changed since Battlefield 1942!". So lets get this review underway.

Gameplay
The Singleplayer maps are meh and few, and as we should all know by now the Battlefield series aren't games you should really be playing alone. Barely anything as changed since Battlefield 1942 except for the ability to change your character's appearance. I also found the weapons to be unbalanced as those playing as the Americans have the ability to carry a LAW rocket launcher and M60 machine gun at the same time. Its a killer combo but to be honest, it gives the American team an unfair advantage as the Vietcong side don't have anything similar to match. The game mechanics are still the same, capture and hold certain spawnpoints to drain your enemy's tickets. The AI is iffy as usual and you'll find many AI enemy players spotting you in positions where you are clearly covered or walking aimlessly into walls.

Sound
The sounds are average and aren't anything to go excite yourself over. The environmental, weapon and vehicle sounds have not improved over Battlefield 1942. I also noticed that the in game speech commands did no have any accompanying sound.

Graphics
The graphics in Battlefield Vietnam have BARELY improved over its predecessor. The graphics are average and some textures are washed out.

Conclusion
A lot more effort could have been put into making it a great Vietnam game. However, it is dwarfed by its predecessor Battlefield 1942 despite the few improvements. However, Battlefield Vietnam is one of the few decent Vietnam games out there so if you're itching for some Vietnam combat, go for it.
