From poor graphics to overcharging, Play4Free is a poor excuse for a Battlefield game.

User Rating: 3.5 | Battlefield: Play4Free PC
A Battlefield game that has "Play4Free" should seem like a great way to start a series of video games. People can play the game without buying anything and still find very similar gameplay to the other games in the series. Battlefield: Play4Free is the complete opposite of that, and is simply disappointing. Many aspects of free games and Battlefield games are missing in Battlefield: Play4Free, which is simply ironic, really.

Pros: Gameplay is somewhat decent, and maps are well made, yet seemingly too familiar.
Cons: Dated graphics and sound quality; lack of awesome Battlefield elements; too few maps to begin with; and overpriced extras run amuck in this game.

To start off, Play4Free looks like Battlefield 2, and that is not a compliment. It would've looked nice 6 years ago, but frankly, it looks terrible. The visuals seem dated and bland, with few colors to spice up the environments. Really, it just seems like blandly colored sand, with some water. Lighting and shadowing is poor, and gunfire and explosions seem simple and underdeveloped. The sound quality is equivalent to the graphics, for it has poor quality. Music is astonishingly terrible. What they did was they altered the Battlefield main theme into some sort of *****y rock song.

Gameplay is somewhat fair, but lag and performance issues in the multiplayer online based game are simply a major no-no. Having a poor computer that somehow cannot handle the graphics will trip you up in major ways. If you have a low field of vision (which is how far you can see until the environment becomes too far and looks like fog) will make ranged combat impossible, specifically with the sniper class.

Many good elements that make Battlefield so awesome are missing in Play4Free, which is extremely disappointing. Firstly, you can't change your class midgame. Are you an Engineer, but want to change to the Sniper class? Well, too bad! Squads are also missing, which is equally disappointing and causes trying to play with friends impossible. You, also, can't choose a specific spawn location, just either on the battlefield or at your team's main base. It is just so disappointing.

The main menu is, also, terribly made. You can't change what map you want to play on and whether or not you want to play with friends. The lack of some type of Leaderboards will demote competitive play, which will be a major drawback to its community. Loading takes a long time, and visual glitches in the main menu are too frequent to be taken seriously.
But the biggest problem is that the game lies to you. Yes, it lies. The game is not free, and is actually overpriced. They have a whole system where in order to buy and keep your weapons and gadgets, you have to spend actually money in order to buy Battlefunds, and using the Battlefunds, you can keep your weapons. Battlefunds render the whole credit system useless, unless you want to just rent your weapons for a few days. The amount you have to pay, even just to switch your main character, is simply astonishing, and makes the pricy map packs for the Call of Duty games look free.

Battlefield: Play4Free is the one Battlefield game you want to avoid, from poor graphics to overpriced extras. There is no point in playing this game when you can play the better games than this overpriced piece of living trash.
