I'd like to start this post by saying that Call of Duty 4 'got me' liking the FPS genre. That game was great and the best for it's time. World At War was fun and to a certain extent so was MW2.
I remember the first time I played Battlefield Bad Company demo and straight away thought it wasn't as good as COD 4. (It wasn't). Then I rented Battlefield Bad Company 2 multiplayer. Straight away I was getting killed left and right, and spawning miles away. Frustration kicked in. I didn't understand the context, or really understand how to play. I had a high k/d ratio in all the COD games yet I was getting killed in BC2.
Call Of Duty caters to new FPS players and it's all really about running around like a chicken with your head off. Kill, Kill, Kill, Kill, Die, Die, Kill etc It's the ultimate fast food FPS shooter. The trouble is, if you play any of the Battlefield games like you play COD..... you WILL die, most probably without a kill.
In the end I decided that the difference between COD and Battlefield was taste. Battlefield was about working in a team. COD was just about you. But that was THEN.
NOW after playing both COD MW3 and Battlefield 3. The difference on the surface is recognizable straight away. In the ways of just sound and graphics.
I wear earphones when playing now and the sound on B3 is on another level to COD. The graphics of B3 look so much better on my Sony Bravia 32 inch TV.
Watching buildings collapse, looking at the way soldiers run, the realism is the closest to the next Gen as possible. Whereas COD still seems it's stuck in 2007. Nothing has changed with that game worth noting. In fact it's arguable to say it's actually gotten worse. The multiplayer map designs definitely have.
Battlefield is all about the objective and how much you can benefit your team. If you work as a team you will get more points. It offers so much more. And the more you play the more you realize just how good the game is. In order to like Battlefield you have to understand what it's all about and it can be daunting on new players.
Why? Just mentioning the vehicles alone (and the fact that you have to learn to use them).
Battlefield 3 has the fast attack light vehicles in the American Growler ITV, the Russian VDV Buggy. The more armoured M1114 HMMWV which can engage helicopters as well as enemy infantry. The Russian GAZ-3927 VODNIK which is similar. Then you have the Russian RHIB boat.
You have infantry fighting vehicles (IFVS) in the LAV-25, the Russian BMP-2M, or the AAV-7A1 AMTRAC which mainly engage enemy infantry.
Then you have the Mobile AAs, Which are designed to shoot down enemy aircraft. The Americans have the LAV-AD. The Russians have the 9K22 TUNGUSKA-M.
Then we have tanks. MBT (Main Battle Tanks). The Americans have the M1 ABRAMS, the Russians have the T-90A.
Then you have the Attack Helicopters. The American AH-1Z VIPER, the Russian. M1-28 HAVOC. And The Scout Helicopters in the American AH-6J LITTLE BIRD, and the Russian Z-11W. The transport helicopters in the American UH-1Y VENOM, and the Russian KA-60 KASATKA.
And I Haven't even mentioned the Jets. In which there is the American A-10 WARTHOG and the F/A-18E SUPER HORNET. And the Russian SU-25TM FROGFOOT and the SU-35BM FLANKER E.
Battleifled 3 multiplayer is the ultimate WAR game in which you have to learn to play. CodMW3 I would now describe as an arcade GUN game.......which caters for everybody.
But even if there were no vehicles in B3. Battlefield would still offer more. In the Frostbite engine. The destruction of buildings. The way soldiers move. The sound of the guns is immense. The use of suppressive fire in which you can blur the vision of your opponent. The way your opponents can blind you with the use of a laser. The fact that you can revive your squad members and repair vehicles and get rewarded for team work.
Battlefield 3 is best First person shooter I have played to date. And once you have played it and then go back to COD you think you are playing a game that was made last gen.

There was huge pressure on EA and DICE to perform last Fall, and somehow, just somehow, they did it.
