A good map creator and custom map game mode where random user created maps are used instead of developer ones. For a content drop you get an origin code to download the software on a computer and works like any RTS map creator. You start with a base of a flat map which you can adjust the size of this base. You paint terrain types such as grasslands, snow, desert, etc. You can adjust the hieght of the terrain to make hills and mountains. Could place trees and other misc. items, set buildings and other structures and draw roads. Could also set objective locations but they need to be a certain minimum distance apart based on the maps base size.

Map creators are never a bad thing. I dont get why more games don't include them.

I know right! They do nothing but extend the appeal and shelf life of a game, AND the players do all the work for the devs.

We get more and better maps that accurately reflect the desires of the community.

My GT? It's zeromajin. Why would I use a different username on a video game site? That would just be strange..... twitch.tv/zeromajin

Well it could be a total crock, but I think one of the reasons most games (mainly on console anyways) don't support a map editor is because of the complications that come from it (building the system that allows you to make the map using only a controller instead of how it's actually built by the developers on their computers). But like I said it's probably a total crock. I know the main reason for sure is because the companies involved lose cash since no one would really buy map packs when the consumer can create superior maps.

Yet you look at games that support user content and see that they live LONG after their expiration date. Blizzard games are proof of this. Starcraft is over ten years old and people still play it (maybe not as much now with 2 out but still) simply because of all the maps that you can create. It was also one of the main draws for me when I bought Far Cry on the original Xbox, loved the editor and spent countless hours messing with it.

The only draw back with user created maps are all the stupid ones people make so that when they're playing they'll always have the upper hand because they'll make cheap sections (racers having that section or two that if you take it you have like a 30sec lead, typical shooters with their stock pile of super weapons, etc) that a single person would be able to typically dominate in.

Though I hope when Mirror's Edge 2 comes out DICE adds an editor or at least a free roam mode so you can just run around doing what you want instead of being stuck in a linear system.

Developers of PC games *very* often just take maps from community map designers, compensate them accordingly and throw them into official rotation. Good designers are rewarded for good work and the product shelf life is extended by constant introduction of new content.

If they're afraid of giving us map making tools then they're probably afraid for their own jobs, since a lot of us can already balance their crappy game better than them, imagine if we could make not-horrible maps on top of that.

Id make a sweet amazon rainforest map. It would cause issues if someone decided to blow up the entire forest though.

From what they were saying the only reason they didn't allow it was frostbite was "Too complicated for players to use".

no its becuz DLC is such a huge thing now, they'd be a fool to let us make our own maps when they could just sell us the maps "we'd want to make".. i think the poster up there a bit said dat but i just skimmed through the post

I appreciated milkshake's post a tiny more than yours.

With that said it's probably true.

Right there is why map editors have gone the way of the dodo...Not to mention that it would certainly make a dent in their sales on DLC.

I agree they are great to have, but in comes down to money. If a games life is extended, there is no reason to get the next installment. And if you can make your own maps for others to play on, there is no reason to buy DLC.

^ And didn't DICE/EA prohibited modding on PC?

Sorry, but I am looking for an answer.
