Just buy a xbox controler. Then you can play with it. But basically it boils down to your reaction time, mouse, how well you shall adjust to playing with a K/M.

You're going to get owned until you get the hang of it. Try looking for server names that include things like "noobs only", they usually kick high level players.
Also I would not recommend using a gamepad, it'll just handicap you and prevent you from improving. Look through some of this guy's videos, he has a couple tutorials on how to properly set up your mouse: http://www.youtube.com/user/rivaLxfactor/videos?view=0

Oh, even if you're good you're going to just die die die on some maps/modes. Accept that and practice and you'll do fine

All your questions can be answered, if that is what you want. But once you learn your answers, you can never unlearn them
The price of getting what you want is getting what once you wanted.

Everyone else has said it here in some way, but you will suck and you will die a lot for a few days. But keep playing, find a niche, and eventually, you'll be up to speed and competitive with everyone else.

Until you find the playstyle that suits you, you're gonna be getting hosed pretty fast. A few suggestions is to play servers that only have 32 players rather than 64, it cuts down on the amount of bullets flying. Learn the maps, learn the guns, and you'll get used to it. Even a controller player can get good if they have situational awareness and are good at their playstyle.

You'll figure it out eventually. The worst thing you can do is continue to use a game controller after going to the PC version.

Pretty much what everybody said. I personally found using a gamepad much more difficult than KB/m when I first started PC FPS, especially with BF3 since there is no auto-aim like there is on consoles, so gamepads become much more difficult.

I sucked hard after playing BF3 both on PS3 and 360 then switching to PC. After a week or two of steady playing you adjust to KB/M, so just give it time.

You shouldn't be playing on 64 players server on most maps anyway. Some few ones, like Operation Firestorm, is great with all playercounts, but most maps are just bad for anything more than 32 players. Rush should be played with 32 at very most anyway.

Naturally you'll be bad at the beginning, but everyone is. Besides, most people are not very good at playing the game anyway.

Play the campaign to get used to the controls. Easy way to not get completely frustrated, at least for me.

So many damn buttons on this keyboard...

I'd also suggest playing regular team deathmatch to get used to the mechanics. You'll get the basics down quicker than traveling across the map only to get trampled by infantry, jets, tanks etc. When you're ready to go to an objective mode, find an empty server to practice riding vehicle and explore the map and some of the other mechanics.
