Why is everyone that plays this game horrible?

Kinda fun game with cool looking graphics, usually I suck at these games online, but this one seems like I'm playing against a bunch of 5 year olds. It is just way too easy. I have only played the trial but the game is a bit laggy and you can drive right through opponents without damaging them. It gets pretty annoying. I want to play it more but if I end up spending the 15 buckaroos im surely to be disappointed.
