Entertaining game, yet nothing from another world.

User Rating: 7.5 | Battle Stadium D.O.N PS2
Battle Stadium D.O.N. is a fighting game that combines three of the most popular anime series, called Dragon Ball, One Piece and finally Naruto. This game has only being released to the Japanese , but there are always ways of getting it. Even if this game looks like something that you cannot wait for playing it, I must say for personal experience that is really nothing really amazing, yet still a good game. My reasons will be on the next words of this review:

Gameplay:

The gameplay of this game is similar to the Super Smash Bros. series, in which players are put into a moving or not moving arena, with features from the three anime series or just places that are unique of the game. D.O.N. doesn't uses the Life Bar that is always seen in the fighting games, instead it uses a health gauge. If a player hits an opponent with any kind of attack, he will decrease the health gauge of the enemy, and at the same time releasing red orbs that can be collected to increase the player's gauge. For the player to win, they have to gain all the orbs from all the opponents, with that taking the whole health bar. This way of putting the Life Bars is a little annoying because sometimes when you think that you're about to win, the enemy comes up with something that leaves both of you exactly as how you started, with the same amount of the Health Gauge for each one, and the battle can always take some time for completing, if for some reason you put the timer on Infinite, otherwise you can just wait for the timer to reach the end, and if that happens the fighter with most Health Bar wins.

Yet, we can see many techniques from the anime characters, such as the Kamehameha of Goku or the clones technique of Naruto which makes us the anime fans to like a bit more the game. The game also included "supers", which are the best techniques of the characters. This supers, includes the famous "Rasengan" of Naruto, the "Genki Dama" or "Super Genki Dama" of Goku and also the "Gum Gum Fireworks" of Luffy. These are examples of the many techniques that can be seen. And like in many games, there's also exists the character transformations, which is activated when you are near completing the Health Bar. This can turn for example Goku on Super Saiyan or Naruto in his Kyuubi Chakra form. When your character transforms, it increases its attack power greatly, making the battle really easier to win from that point, yet there can always be a turn of events.

Story:

Here is where the game turns a really bad direction. The game has absolutely nothing of story, and the little amount of it that it has doesn't make any sense, the ending it is the strangest thing ever and you always have the question: "Why are they fighting then? It can't be seriously for some ramen..." This is maybe the only thing that leaves the game with less points than it should have.

Story Mode:

The Story Mode makes the player go through five different battles that have a last enemy (more powerful than the others) waiting for you. In the middle of them, you may find two or three missions that after completing may give you coins that can later be used after completing the game. Meanwhile higher is the difficult that you put, harder will be the missions but the coins gained are higher too. The coins can later be used on a Slot Machine, in which you can gain certain cards and in the best of cases you can win characters and stages.

About Replaying the Game:

Really, the only thing that you will want to do after completing the game is to gain more coins and unlock the many things that you would like to unlock...

Multiplayer:

There are two ways of playing multiplayer: One is by fighting a normal game up to four player with the normal rules and the other is to use the cards won in the Slot Machine to change different things of the battle.

Final:

The game was really good, but the "Story" totally ruined it, otherwise it was OK. The game is good for playing it with friends and having fun with it. It is not something that the greatest fans of Dragon Ball, Naruto and One Piece would really like, but for most people it can be a good fighting game.

You probably won't get tired of it for a long time...
