A phenomenal game that every gamer particularly RPG lovers should pick up. Great gameplay and an amazing story.

The automatic healing after combat is such a simple yet ingenious inclusion, saving player a hassle that has become accepted among RPG gamers. It is Chrono crosses innovative magic system which makes this wonderful timesaver possible.
A common complaint I have with RPG's, yet another one that I and I imagine other gamers have just come to accept, is that the magic systems almost always lead me to avoid using magic unless in a difficult battle. Ether's or whatever magic point replenisher the game uses are usually rare and expensive. The high value of characters magic points creates a situation in which the often beautifully rendered magic effects are rarely seen. The grid system used in Chrono cross overcomes this longstanding problem, making magic a common and enjoyable element in even the most mundane combat.
The combat system is engaging. Having options for the standard attack command helps to keep combat from getting dry too quickly. Although not as engaging and entertaining as the fighting of Xenogears or Legend of Dragoon, Chrono cross provides an admirable method of spicing up what can often be one of the dullest aspects of RPG's. Although, the combat system is not the most engaging I have experienced it does well enough.
Chrono cross certainly delivers in terms of gameplay, breaking the mold of RPG’s in many ways and creating a new better model to be emulated. Music
The first thing I noticed about Chrono cross after putting the disc in and watching the opening screens was the phenomenal music. Throughout the gaming experience the player is treated to what I would consider the best music in an RPG if not game of any genre that I have played. The music of Chrono cross rather than just being something to fill the aural void, raises the gaming experience to a higher level. I found that if I did not quickly begin the game each time I sat down to play the music for the opening video would draw me in so that I would have to watch the entire cinematic. Value
Every RPG gamer should pick up Chrono Cross, it is a rare gem in a genre often filled with sub-par games. I would even suggest it as a great game for someone interested in breaking into the RPG genre as many of the little annoyances of the genre are absent from this title. Although there are multiple endings to the game in my opinion they are not really worth the second, albeit shorter, play through particularly if you are chronically trying to catch up with games you have yet to play like me.
I am a junky for story. If a game has a good story I will put up with almost anything in terms of game play for it and it takes some phenomenal game play to keep me involved in a game without a solid narrative. Chrono Cross had me worried for a great portion of the game. Not to say that it was bad it just was not phenomenal. I felt little attachment to the characters making my only motivation for going onto the next quest being continuing the game. However, as you reach the end of the game a deeply involved and compelling plot emerges. I found the premise of Chrono Cross to be one of if not my favorite of all time contending only with Xenogears. Whenever I play an RPG I compare it to Final Fantasy VII my favorite game of all time. The game where I think every aspect of story telling was done correctly. What let me down a little about Chrono Cross is that I realized the potential of the story they had crafted to top Final Fantasy VII, giving me a new king. However, Chrono Cross falls a little short in providing compelling characters who grow throughout the game. I felt no real attachment to the characters and could only really pick a favorite based on character model not personality. This is partially because of the extremely large cast of playable characters, but I fell this is not the whole problem as even the main characters seemed rather flat to me. Harle would be the most well developed character of all in my opinion and I love her to this day. Chrono Cross also stumbles a little in terms of pacing. There is a great story, they just should not have waited so long to begin to tell it.
Chrono Cross is one of the greatest RPG’s I have ever played and everyone should pick it up.
