Batman Returns shocks with surprising 2-D platform gameplay. In-fact, it's one of the best platformers on the SNES.

I've been spending some time going back into the classic console games since emulation has became pretty advanced and easy to do. I've spent a lot of time playing the Final Fight series, as long as the "Punisher" for MAME. Who can forget Battletoads or the Double Dragon series?

I loaded in Batman Returns, and was shocked at how well played the game was. Most of these platform titles suffer from monotonous gameplay. It seems all you do is keep advancing screens, doing the same thing over and over again.

Batman Returns brings in some exciting characters to battle, along with some pretty engaging boss fights from the movie. The story is also followed in great sequence with cutscenes and story.

Not only can you punch enemies, but you can stun them throwing your bat knives at them. You can also slam them against the walls and break glass with them.

Fighting enemies is not all you will find yourself doing. There are times where you must escape certain areas using your grappling hook, and using precise jumping to safely exit an area. There is even a stage that requires using the batmobile, shooting enemies along with avoiding obstacles in the road.

If you loved the Michael Keaton Batman series, along with good platform titles, this game will not let you down.
