Batman: Return of the Joker User Review
- Difficulty:
- Very Hard
- Time Spent:
- 10 to 20 Hours
- The Bottom Line:
- "Disappointing"
The good: Catchy music and cool graphics.
The bad: The Grappling hook control is fundamentally broken.
Gameplay: 4/10
Graphics: 8/10
Sound: 10/10
Value: 4/10
Tilt: 6/10
Average Score: 6.4/10
As amazing as it sounds, Batman games form the old days have one thing in common; good graphics. This game has got the looks and the sound, but does it have the game-play? Well if not for the grappling hook, yes.
Basically, the Joker has returned, and when you start the title, you get a catchy song that sounds like Megaman music (AVGN), and when you start the game, you notice you have a grappling hook. The grappling hook is abysmally disasterous. When you want to go across a gap to another, you launch the grappling hook on to a ceiling above you. Instead of going right, it goes left, drops you, or it doesn't even move. This will happen a lot, and you won't even get past the first level, because when you try to reach the exit, the hook won't let you go. If only that wall was shorter, then you would at least get a chance.
Overall, the game looks and sounds great, having one of the best soundtracks for a game boy game. Still, had it not been for the abysmal grappling hook control, Batman: Return of the Joker would been a good game.

"Return of the Joker" is a fun superhero romp for the Game Boy, even if the difficulty is a bit unbearable!

The Dark Knight's outing in this game is a bit flawed, but otherwise enjoyable.
