We chat it up with Dax Ginn of Rocksteady Studios about the latest incarnation of the caped crusader in Batman: Arkham City.
Why is there no batmobile? Given a free roam city environment, the Batmobile would be a perfect means of transport across Arkum city! Imagine being able to take out a gang with its gadgetry! Real shame if it's been omitted
heres an example if robin was in the story batman: our destenation is a 100000 kilometers away robin: so how are we going to get there batman: we.........my batjet only has place for one and my batmobile is crushed in the asylum robin: so that means i have to walk batman: yup cya on the far side brother robin: (crying) i knew they didnt have to put me in storymode
@barhoom999 I am not a 100% sure how he originated either, i am not sure if the explanation given in the film "batman forever" is true to the comic's story or not but I do know the reasoning behind creating Robin and it was to try and boost the flagging sales of the comic book... Thanks for your post, this all started due to my original comment getting a 'slagging' from some guy i can't remember who, he had started spurting sh*te at me for saying the same view as yourself about robin and he burst so much i think he may have given birth? Anyway, thanks to yourselves, this has proven the point that Batman "the game" does not need "Robin!"
@punksterdaddy i agree with you adding Robin removes the whole point of the story although it would be cool if the make a multi-player story with robin in it or in the main story they give you a Robin Bio cause (i know im gonna get a few dislikes for this) i only know robin i dont know how he originated.
you know its ok that the game is being released in 18th oct. but honestly i think in the last few weeks thier gonna be doing alot of final touches.its a good thing it dosnt do what other games do wich is adding so many ''final touches'' that it actually ruins part of the games.but anyways im pretty sure this is gonna be one AWSOME GAME!
Joker:Why soo serious? Batman:Im playing ''Arkham city'' and im losing to Joker Joker:WOOOHOO
@ryzrocks Thanks for your reply, by the way... WELL SAID! It is nice to see another fellow gamer agreeing with me on this issue, I couldn't have put it better... Batman should remain a loner, who is robin anyway? A failed circus artist that gets a hard on at batman's gadgets? Lol. These guys at rocksteady know what they are doing, i doubt they would find a good use for him but you never know... he may show up briefly in Arkham City or a 3rd instalment of the series? He would need to be a serious bad arse in order for it to work though, in fact he would make a good villain to batman. A bit off topic here now but I just learned today that the next batman movie called "The Dark Knight Rises" (i think that was the title name) won't feature the boy wonder but has a new bad guy played by Tom Hardy in the form of Bane, seems a strange choice of bad guy but since the last 2 films were ace I shall give them the benefit of the doubt, they know what they are doing also? Well, lets hope so....?
@punksterdaddy Yea man I totally agree that batman is a loner..and that if these guys add robin the game will be a total mistake..maybe they'll make another batman franchise for that Batman-Robin thing...as long as this series is left as batman as a loner..:P
@Corporal Nosaj I am glad you agree, to be honest i thought when i logged on just now my inbox would be full of negatives but thankfully no... I'm guessing you too have got a sense of humour? Even though it wasn't that funny anyway, the point was that there was no need for robin. I agree with you also on the dlc maybe containing him as a multiplayer add on or something.... but that is it! Och well, anyway Corp thanks for your response... Now i'll go and check to see what others have accused me of in my inbox, lol?
They announced that the storyline between the first and second game is going to have a 2 year time span difference. I really hope they add a decent beginning video/movie filling in the two year gap the storyline is going to have. and i cant wait!
@punksterdaddy personally i think robin should stay out of the GAME play but if they added a multiplayer option were you can team up with people online and take on 100 baddies at once, and it is You (batman) and your friend (Robin) that would be kool, but i agree to adding him as apart of the storyline would be a MISTAKE.
im happy that they crated a free world city that you can explore, like assasins creed. and yes, theres a lot wrong with joker
Still crazy hard to believe that Luke Skywalker is the voice of the joker. This is best cast of voices ever and I'm glad they're still at it since the 90's animated series.
Simply amazing. I'm sure though that we're gonna get a sequence where we can use the batmobile, not too much though, I like the gliding and rappel way of transportation. This is going to be an amazing game, a serious contender for GOTY.
there are two important things missing in this game. batmobile and smoke bombs! and about robin please keep that mistake out of this game! It would be fun to pilot one of batman's vehicle or the batwing. and maybe a little rpg twist to solve difficult puzzles of crimes
this game is less focused and more open ended then arkum asylum and that might either work for or against the game.
Awesome. What Dax did at the end of the video, ( move his brows ) really creeped me out. o.O
@jackbacon i don't know what i am talking about? have you bothered to read your own post? i'm talking about the villians being the main focus and the game does not need robin! the rest i said was a joke, a little poke of fun at the terrible batman & robin movie... do u know that word... fun??? anyway since you clearly are a huge fan of robin, maybe u should try and get the word out about his importance to u and then see what happens? maybe they will add some dlc where you can have robin saying "holy sh*te batman, i've got a fan!" Who knows? Anyway mr bacon, i'm just having a wee bit o fun but i would prefer if robin was left out of the game, i still feel that there is no need for that character but maybe its an idea for a possible 3rd game or maybe he will make an appearance in Arkham City? There is more i could say on this but i really can't be arsed, i'm tired of this bickering i see here every time i log on and i don't get why you take it personally about my remarks over 'the boy wonder' unless.... wait.... its ... he's... YOU???
@ punksterdaddy it's clear you don't know what your talking about. It's true Robin was originally introduced to change Batman's image to make him more appealing, but comic writing has evolved since then and Robin with as much sophistication as Batman himself. It's naive to compare Batman's peripheral characters to the Schumacher movies when considering Batman himself was regarded with the same disdain in his own series back in the 60's. The story of this game is that a whole city is filled with criminals and psychopaths. Batman is going to need all the help he can get, and he's not stupid enough to think he doesn't. So the story would make more sense if it included Robin, Batgirl, Batwomen, Nightwing, and Huntress in addition to Catwomen who we already know is in the game.
ha ha, the guy's 'buy my game stare,' has worked on me too! freaky bloke stare at 3m46s!
robin? nah, i dont think so folks... robin was only added to boost the flagging sales back in 1901 or something. lol. The story does not need him in it and look on the bright side, its the real mental crazies of the villain world that really make the story! If robin is brought in, whats next batgirl? omg no thanks, then before we know it we will have george clooney doing the voice of batman??? Batman is supposed to be a loner, the story makes more sense that way!
I like this guy's efficiency and enuthsiasm alike - I believe the guy interviewing to be rather uninspired though... Really looking forward to this; I didn't really expect them to make such a big jump in gameplay. I'm pretty curious to see exactly how big the world is...
what i meant to say was, the developers need to come up with a more unique story. having the same damn villains over and over in a game just doesn't appeal to me.
GAMEPLAY FOOTAGE!!!! WHY IS GAMESPOT BEHIND ON THIS?!?! http://www.superherohype.com/news/articles/128774-batman-arkham-city-gameplay-trailer-hits
@GamerBaboo wolverine wears his pants over his trousers toom, i bet you wouldnt dare dis him lol N to think about it, im pretty certain batman wears his underpants over his trousers also... Back on topic, its looking good, cant wait!!
I almost forgot. Only 218 more days to go. ;) Which means they have a lot of time to make it perfect.
GOTY anyone? I've been hyped over a game's release before, but Arkham City takes game hype to a totally different level. This is without any doubt, THE MOST anticipated game of 2011.
Does anyone else agree that Batman isn't the best character in the Batman universe? I'd personally just love it if brought Scarecrow back, because he's the best.
Some of you were asking about Robin, but I really don't see what added gameplay he brings that Batman isn't already ready doing or surpasses. They would really have to get creative to bring Robin as a viable character to play.
I can't wait for it for it!! If you look at my forum sig you can see that i'm currently playing Arkham Asylum in prep for Arkham city.
