Remember the beginning when Bruce Wayne fights off the Penguin's thugs? How can a prison facility have a ladder system leading to the rooftops? and how come Bruce Wayne has an electronic communication device to call Alfred, don't they remove those when you're in prison? Sometimes devs take details for granted making the game a farce. Well come to think of it, Batman in the 60s tv series was a comedy. So maybe they patterned it after that.

uhh its not a prison it's a city that's cordoned off to make it a sort of prison... obviously there would still be ladders... Maybe the comm. device was hidden in some sort of Bat body cavity lol, or really I'm pretty sure Strange
wanted Batman to escape since during the intro he says "keeps the cuffs on, we don't want to make things
too easy for him now do we?".... kinda a hint he's not done everything he could to detain Bruce.
Either way if such small details are enough to destroy your suspension of disbelief I feel very sorry for you

It's a work of fiction based on comic book characters.... your sad.

Besides what was mentioned about it being a walled off city vs actual prison, that was just the intro where they were bringing Batman in before actually incarcerating him. So naturally he'd still have his street clothes and other items. Other detainees were allowed to go out and "greet" him in the outer area under Peguin's watch, which is where they obviously took him for granted, as they always do.

The intro is pretty terrible, though. They don't even give you much of an idea why Arkham City even exists.

The first one had a huge following though, so anyone who's played it or heard about it probably already knew.

I thought the game was way too unrealistic from the start and it kept bugging me.
Once my handcuffed Bruce Wayne started fighting back I thought for sure I had given away my secret identity. Then the game shows me that the temperature is pretty much freezing... but nobody is dressed like it. A normal woman falls 30 feet and is able to stand minutes after. Powerful looking bosses that are weaker than goons.
I just can't find much enjoyment in this game at all. The dialogue and atmosphere are good at least.. but that just makes me feel like I should have watched a few good movies instead

Im guessing that the ladder wasn't taken off because, the alley that they were in was closed off and im guessing that Penguin had the key. I believe the fence had spikes ont hem so no one could climb it just to get on the ladder. Either way theres no point on getting onto the rooftops since you really can't escape fromt hat height.
For his watch not being removed my guess is that if you remember int he begining they rushed in to take Bruce Wayne in and they probably didn't bother searching him throughly since he is still wearing his suit instead of the prison outfit just so Strange can interigate him.
You need to remember that Batman is based off the comics so anything goes otherwise it would be boring, the only thing they took from the 60's Batman is the Shark.
I think someone mentioned that Bruce uses a different fighting as Bruce and another style when he is Batman remember that he knows every fighting style known int he world. What if you cornered Bill Gates and he starts doing Bruce Lee moves totally unexpected right? I think this was a amazing intro btw.

I find it odd such trivial things are off putting to some as if too unrealistic, yet they're OK with a muscle bound guy being able to glide all over the city effortlessly with a mere cape, thugs transforming into titans, Clayface taking any form he wants, Ra's al Ghul constantly defying death, etc, etc.
Feb 22, 2012 6:14 pm GMT
lol this game is far from realistic like any game.
Feb 23, 2012 8:12 pm GMT
yea these are really flimsy gripes to have about Batman lol

I played the first game and was still bewildered at the very existence of Arkham City (the prison, not the game). Who would ever allow something like that??
Feb 26, 2012 9:04 am GMT
the Mayor of the city allowed it

"Arkham City" is simply the device the devs came up with to make a Batman game with the player running around a small section of Gotham, but without having to model moving traffic or large civilian crowds and having a reason for there to be enemies everywhere. I take it for what it is, Im Batman, I get to jump off Gotham skyscrapers and knock out enemies below. The story itself doesnt make sense, but the gameplay is great. AA was the complete opposite.

those things don't seem ridiculous at all, the only thing i found off putting about the whole thing is that he is obviously fighting just like batman does right in front of one of the main villains... you think they would put something together.
Feb 27, 2012 5:45 pm GMT
^ Actually, he has a different fighting style. Pay attention next time.

When you factor in we're talking a story derived from a comick book tale where villains regularly reek havoc in Gotham, then it makes sense to have a small city serve as a large prison, since literally ALL of these villains use random thugs to help them, which ends up being too many to put in the Gotham jail. Aside from that, apparently some of you missed the point that there was a certain mob mentality and influence going on with the election of the mayor, his role in the penal system, and more importantly, Hugo Strange running everything. If you can't see that mass scale corruption such as this entails extraordinary circumstances, esp when you're talking a comick book tale with a a psycho villain such as Hugo Strange being the puppet of an assassin cult leader, then I think you need to go back and pay attention to the story. Did you somehow miss the genocidal tendencies Ra's al Ghul displayed? Arkham City was in reality never intended to be a penal system, but a theater for mass execution. Again, I see no reason to suspend disbelief on some of the more obvious fiction, yet have a problem with the setting.

I don't think anyone "forgot" that, and it isn't "random" since the story is obviously themed around it. Accepting that the story is about a vigilante superhero dressed in a bat costume is a given before even playing the game. Otherwsie you wouldn't even want to try the game let alone buy it now would you?

Very unrealistic, not once during the many many hours that I played the game did Batman have to poop. At some point in this so called realistic game that Rocksteady shoved into stores Batman should have had to duck into a dark alley, take a squat and let loose his vengeance.

OK, "let loose his vengeance" is the funniest thing I've heard/read all day.
