Could be much better then when the series first came out.

I've just started to get into this new fishing sim and it is much different then the older versions of the game. The biggest change is in the graphics and controls. First the graphics are better then in the past especially the water and surrounding areas of the lake and underwater terrain. It's hard to explain why they removed the depth finder that was in previous versions as it helps to find areas to fish. Then there's the person that you can be, you have a choice of being male or female but clothing options are limited. The same can be said for the boats though there are more choices here then in the past including the Bass Pro Shops line of Tracker boats and several different colors to choose from. Then we come to the equipment both rods, reels, line, and lures. These are all very limited especially lure selection. Lake selection is pretty decent but most are locked and to get them unlocked you need to fish in tournament mode. As you get deeper into the game many more items are unlocked and for a game like this it seems to be a new trend.

Control is different from the previous versions and is difficult to pick up on the first time out. You can move the boat with the electric trolling motor while fishing which is a nice touch. Casting is easy to learn but takes some practice. Setting the hook and fighting the fish are very different and pretty clunky until you get used to the movements of the mouse to set the hook and play the fish to the boat. The fisherman landing the fish at the boat is automatic and looks jagged unlike previous versions. I was using an eVGA 8800 GTS video card and everything turned up to the max. Once I've played this game more often and begin to unlock the lakes I'll revisit this review. For now it looks to like this might be a winner but only time will tell.
