Banjo-Kazooie User Review
Super Mario 64 was the game that defined the way all platform games should look like on the 3-D era. Of course it was a special game for everything new and revolutionary that it featured, but eventually in the gaming world most revolutionary games are once surpassed by others, and 1998 was the year it happened.
Banjo-Kazooie managed to take a already well-known formula to the next level by improving what many platform games were doing at that time, once you play this game you won't be able to stop.
The storyline is simple yet amazing. Banjo lives peacefully on a house next to a mountain, one day he was sleeping while his sister, Tooty was outside playing but he didn't know that not very far from his house an evil witch was planning to kidnap his beloved sister.
This witch's name is Gruntilda and she wants to be the most beautiful woman in the world, but unfortunately for her she discovers there is somebody who is more attractive than her, so she decides to take Banjo's sister to her lair and use a machine to steal Tooty's beauty. So once Banjo wakes up he discovers that his sister is in trouble and the lazy bear suddenly becomes the hero on one of the best adventures up-to-date.
This game is consisted basically of one overwhelming overworld called Grunty's Lair and other 9 worlds that are increadibly huge. You will need to find a way to enter these worlds, some of them are quite hard to find, and when you enter one of them you will need to collect 100 musical notes and 10 Jiggies, the musical notes are spread through the world while the Jiggies can only be acquired after you perform a certain action.
The musical notes will open doors that can be found on Grunty's Lair and the Jiggies are used to complete Jigsaw puzzles that open doors to other worlds inside the witch's lair, you won't need all of them to advance though, this makes this game perfect for people who don't like to get everything that can be found, but of course collecting all of the items can get you some surprises at the end.
Inside each world you will have many interesting things to do, there is a shaman that was a teacher from Gruntilda in the past that will help you on some areas by transforming you into many things such as a pumpkin or a walrus, also there are some creatures called Jinjos that have been almost destroyed by Gruntilda, if you find all of them in an area you will get a Jiggie.
Banjo and Kazooie can also perform great moves that will be taught to you by a nice mole called Bottles, this moves are extremely necessary during your journey, you will learn different attacks and how to fly.
All of the worlds are amazing, probably the most beautiful ones you will find in any game of the N64, the scenarios vary a lot you will find a desert, a snowy peak and even a haunted mansion. The characters are all very well designed but given the world's magnificence some characters are not as sharp as you would expect.
The sound effects are revolutionary, before this game I hadn't seen any game show characters that have their own voices this gives them a personality, the world songs are awesome and as addictive as they can be, I still hum some of them.
Banjo-Kazooie is a long and great challenge, this game is hard and will present lots of different objectives and puzzles that you will only be able to perform by learning some new moves with Bottles that are amazingly original.
So, even though this game was released eight years ago it is still really fun and you just can't miss it. After I played I started to see videogames in a completely different way, you will spend a long time playing this one.
