User Rating: 8.2 | Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance II PS2
I decided to get this game after having a lot of fun with Champions of Norrath and I read that Champions of Norrath was almost identical to Baldurs gate. And it is. Right away when booting the game I noticed the menu's the controls, the classes, it all looked quite a lot like Champions of Norrath and that's a good thing :) Gameplay: 9 The gameplay in Baldurs gate is my kinda gameplay. The characters walk smooth and fast, you can jump and go even faster, fighting is done with a touch of a button and it's very easy to exchange between three types of weapons your carrying (ranged, one and two handed). Leveling up goes rather fast and when you do you get a very simple little menu where you can destribute your points quickly and go on slashing. I played the game in co-op mode and was a bit suprised by the fact that the two players share their money with each other wich means there is no stealing from each other to get the most money and the best stuff. That was a nice suprise cuz it made the experience more friendly. Graphics: 8 The graphics are great in this game. Even though the game is getting kind of old already the water effects are still some of the best ever seen on the ps2 and the magic effects as well as the enviroments and enemies are very detailed and colourfull. The death animations were also detailed but did start to get a bit boring after seeing the 32563463st heart fly out of a monster. Sound: 7 I personally did not really like the music, but the other sound effects were very nice to the ear and the dying sounds as well as all the gold falling to the floor when you kill another freak were done very well. The fact that almost all of the dialoge was voice acted was very pleasant because it adds to the overall atmosphere. Value: 8 The value is very nice in this game. Playing in single player the game will take you about 9 hours to complete and then you can go all over it again with another class to have a very different gaming experience. PLaying it in co-op extends the gameplay by two or three hours cuz you won't always agree wich way to go :) Reviewer's Tilt: 8 A pretty high tilt becaus the game gives all it says it will and delivers a good 9 or 10 hours of hacking fun. The game is complete and slick, there are no bugs or glithces that I could find and the voice acting was of a good level. Overall score: 8.2 It's a great hack and slash game. Get this game, diablo 2 and Champions of Norrath and you'r summer is complete.
